Sammy Lee..

Personally I don't see this as being a particularly clever or useful statement from LSL.

Fair enough, he is saying that he doesn't want Anelka to leave, but why make this statement in the first place. You're just inviting interest and offers, which is what he or us doesn't want.

Anelka has apparently turned Lyon down, but he was always going to. If another big Champs league show interest, I'm not too sure he'll say no again. :nea:

It's odd that Anelka may be out of the Peace cup final due to a "bruised foot" according to the official site. I hope Sammy isn't going to do his own legs just to spite him. With Anelka Davies and Dioufy up front I reckon the cup wil be ours.

why, i thought this was pretty fukcin obvious to everyone???

plus manager dont make 'statements', they answer questions asked by journalist fishing for things to print.

i cant believe i even fukcin explaining this!!!!

homer cant wait for your film

I'd have preferred - "I'll do everything in my power to keep the lad at Bolton".

Why does Anelka want Champs League football? He knew when he signed 4 year contract at Bolton he would not be getting ECL within the first 12 months.

Not happy.

I've been getting positive vibes about next season recently.

I agree about the good vibes thing and IF Anelka did go i would be pretty pissed off Also agree with Homer on its not what we didnt know already!

We know The Elk isnt the most loyal of playersl but we live in hope :good:

If he does stay i think we will be in for an exiting season

Getting deja vu with this thread. There is nothing new in what Sammy Lee is saying.

Personally dont mind the comments - he's being transparent about the situation which beats the cloak and dagger stuff we're used to.

"I have been concerned about the speculation in the media linking some of my players with moves away from the club. It has been unsettling, but I remain confident that quality players will want to stay here.

"I had a very positive conversation with Nicolas (Anelka) and he has given me his commitment. He enjoys playing for Bolton and last season he felt that his career was progressing back to his best on the back of his solid performances for us. There is no disputing his ambition as a footballer. He is one of the world's best strikers and it is a privilege that he ply his trade with us.

"I know he has ambitions of playing in the Champions League again, which I hope can be achieved with us. If that can't be the case, I will not stand in his way should a Champions League club comes in for him and the deal is right for Bolton Wanderers. Until that time, he doesn't want to play football anywhere else but here."

I'd have preferred - "I'll do everything in my power to keep the lad at Bolton".

The red tops would report that as "Little Sam blocks Arsenal move for want-away Anelka".

99% of football stories in the media are a waste of time. End of.

Can we ban new threads about Anelka leaving now?

Anelka joined to get Bolton in [and therefore subsequently play in the Champions League] . . . for much of last season this looked a racing certainty till our midfield ran out of gas!

His ambition has not changed and he mearly wanted to clarify that the clubs hasn't too . . . so stop sniping at the bloke, support him and wake up to the BBC/jealous/negative journalism which just cannot accept that BWFC are now big enough to attract stars of World football . . . Get over it and give us and Nic some credit for trying to build something and challenge the big 4 !

I don't think there was any real need for you to jump on your high horse. You're not feckin explaining much anyway really are you.

It probably was obvious to everyone, but there was still no need to advertise the fact and basically admit that we'd sell him. I'd have preferred something similar to what Smiley said, or stronger, as in, "he's going nowhere".

Managers, and everyone else, do make "statements" - whether these be answers to questions or otherwise.
