Okocha

Teamtalk I know but:

Tigers try to get claws into duo Tue 28 Aug, 01:00 PM

Hull boss Phil Brown has held tentative talks with former Bolton star Jay-Jay Okocha - and is also keen on capturing Wigan hitman Caleb Folan.Knee ligament damage suffered by Nick Barmby has increased the necessity to bring in a midfielder of an attacking bent, and it now looks as though Okocha could fit the bill.

Hull have made no secret of their desire to bring in a big name, having earlier in the summer failed in a bid to land World Cup winner Juninho.

Okocha enjoyed a hugely-successful spell in England with Bolton earlier in his career and is now available, as a free agent, having spent a year in Qatar.

Brown is refusing to get carried away though, as there is interest from several other English clubs in the Nigerian's services.

"I had a tentative chat with Jay-Jay just because he's available and is a free agent. He's had similar chats with five or six clubs in England who are interested in him," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail.

"It's not a case of anything falling flat or not coming off. I'm just waiting on a phone call but I admit I'm not holding out any hope."

Wigan's Folan has struggled to break into Chris Hutchings' first team this season and while Brown admits holding an interest, he is of the belief that the player is not available for transfer at present. "I've spoken to Chris Hutchings and he's aware of our interest. At the moment the player is not available. If he was I would be interested. Will he become available before Friday? You never know."

I think it's because we are signing Dean Windass, it's brought him over for his medical

Top bloke Okocha - god knows how many autographs he signed at the end of the game (and during the latter stages)

Would be a great signing for Hull - you can just see the tricks and flicks against the Championship sides!

USA beckons though, I'd guess.

Talking of Okocha, I thought I saw him on the side of chorley new road at about 2.55 with his missus looking at there broken down bentley. Was quite amusing whilst running late for the match. Does he still live in bolton?

I would imagine you're right with that guess, either that or the frozen wastes north of the border

I'd hope not. It'll be a sad day to see someone with his talent plying his trade up there. The heathens just wouldn't appreciate it.

Hull are using the De Veres in advance of their game at Wigan. Phil Brown got Gartside to wangle a hefty discount for Hull's hotel stay.

Dammit there's another thread. To quote me on another thread:

"As is often the case with players nowadays, I was gutted we didn't get a chance to say goodbye to Jay Jay. I hope Hull sign him. I propose a random group of Bolton fans at Hull chanting "we've only come to see Okocha!" :yahoo: :drinks: =D>

cracking idea.

Count me in.

I was semi-joking at first. But, by jingo I think it may be a cracker of an idea.

A coach or two all in Bolton tops. I think old twinkle-toes will love it. May even get a Tiger-group discount.

I went to Bradford to watch Super John's home debut for them. There were plenty of Bolton shirts knocking about that day, though I imagine a lot wished they hadn't bothered after the 0-0 draw with Tranmere.

A couple of us off here once went up to Hibs to see Mixu play, no other Whites spotted though.

He lumbered around to mixed effect but was popular with the support.
