Last week as i got off the train at Salford Cresent Train station i was cobbled by the BTP who mithered me to death about why i hadn't bought a ticket!Don't get me wrong it's not as though i didn't have the money to but one, it's just why should i buy one, knowing damn well that the train is either gonna be late or packed to the point of me having a mouth full of a passsengers hair in my mouth.Anyhow i was read my rights and told id receive a letter explaining what would happen to me, i was thinking that id get a fine, however i returned home from work yesterday to find a letter saying that they wanted me to attend BTP station in Picaddily Train Station to receive an offical caution. Now fair enough what i did was wrong, but how can they give theifs,vandals, and the like the same punishment as someone who tries to dodge his train fare, also how come you just get a fine if caught on the Metrolink, yet get a police caution for doing the excact same on a train. I can see Ruth Kelly being e-mailed over this one!!

As i was talking to the Policewoman(Women in the police force, whatever next)she asked to why i hadn't paid for a ticket, i said because there is no office at Kearsley(Now i actually get on at Farnworth, where there is one), so she said well why didn't you but one on the train, i said cause nobody came round checking tickets, then what she said next left me gobsmakced, she said why hadn't i purchased a ticket at Salford after i got off the train, i was stood there thinking to myself is this bint for real, like anyone in the right mind would by a ticket after they've got off the train!!!!

 

Oh and why don't the ticket man come round on the train back from Horwich Parkway back to Bolton after a game, is it cause they'd get told to f*ck right off!!So im threory im being discriminated against cause im on my own and won't kick up a fuss!!Im not trying to say im not guilty of dodging the fare, cause i hold my hands up to being in the wrong, however why just pick on one person, when they know hundreds dodge fares every week from Football clubs up and down the country!!!!

Why dont you say you got on at a station where the ticket office was closed or has no ticket office? When I travel from Horwich Parkway into Deansgate I have to go out of my way to try and buy a ticket, and its always at the other end.

Yes, and on very dull nights I watch Newsnight, which confirmed we're paying towards pretty much every train company through our taxes & then they have the cheek to increase fares also.

Don't forget that we pay the wages of the copper who nicked him and i would imagine that the cost of completing the paperwork alone would have been far greater than cost of the fare. If it's any consolation, for the same offence in London you would end up in court, fined up to ?1000 and with a criminal record. Still it's good to know that all the serious crime has now been solved and the full force of the law can now be applied to people who've made a simple mistake.

No, because they're f?cking useless at what they do & insist on paying their top brass multi-million ? payoffs.

 

It's hard to get away with dodging the fare now, they check your tickets at pretty much every station, whether you get on or off.

Must be a Salford Crescent thing. A couple of years ago en route to Deansgate the train pulled into Salford Crescent. After a long delay we were told to leave the train as this train was now being cancelled. Its a 40 min walk to work from there but I figured it would be better than hanging around

 

After showing my travel pass to the ticket inspector I tried to get on the exit ramp. Not knowing the over zealous inspector had kept hold of the my pass, causing it to rip in half. The photo id I had the ticket he had. Only he did'nt, you know the bit they warn you about " please mind the gap between the train & platform edge" thats were my ticket had gone. Don't warn you about inspectors chucking your

tickets down there do they eh!!

 

As the train was'nt going anywere I filled out a form and requested that when the train moves they find said ticket and return it to Deansgate so I can at least get home. Only on leaving the station I'm collared again this time by the BTP who not believing my tale tell me I'm going to be cautioned as the guard had conveniently disappeared.

 

I would say thankfully the train pulled out & my ticket was found. However it had now been un-cancelled, so I need'nt have got off it at all & I had to wait for the health & safety peeps to sort

out getting my ticket off the tracks. I was 1 1/2 hours later for work than I would have been.

Not strictly true, but I agree that a lot of rail companies have gone hugely over budget. You should never privatise national companies because there is no cosumer choice. If I commute into London I have to get Southern trains, I can't go oh Southern's service is rubbish I'm only going to use Great North Eastern from now on.

 

Still, I does tick me off that if you can't buy a ticket before you board, YOU have to look for the conductor to pay your fare.
