Is 1987 the number of folk or where they time travelling folk FROM 1987? I may have been at the Darlo' match but really can't remember, went to a lot of games at that time, in fact it was probably my most regular period of home and away attendance but the football was that poor I think i've (mercifully) blocked it from my memory.

It was used my Traf in a post about people who went to that match

 

should get a ticket for Madrid. It was our lowest crowd at Burnden as

 

you know. You ask any 30something and they will say they were at

 

that game. Just brought back memories for me.

Was there with me Dad that night in Manny Rd South. As I recall, they didn't open the Embankment for the Darlo fans, there were about 6 of them above us in Manny Rd Stand.

 

Long standing comment that between Dad and meself, "aye but were they one of the 2902 on that night?" Yes the hours whiled away in our household

always the case that, good example the Hull away match on our way to promotion, when we had the away end behind the goal, half the stand to the left of us and the the seats to the right, and the bolton lad running on the pitch before the match and scoring a goal in front on the home end.....oh and worst away ground has to be the shed, sorry the shay

I don't think you could call it a pitch a Darlington........moss bank park muni pitches had more grass and less mud. Did you go to Hartlepool when we had 4 different types of weather on that lovely open terrace (rain, sleet, snow and wind), I even had a weird type of "sun burn", although that was from the wind....but wind burn sounds a bit gross

I think there was a big rugby union game on in Hartlepool that same afternoon which was why our game was an early kick off. Yes, that breeze blowing in off the North Sea was a bit nippy that day!

Yup Burnden Paddock towards the Lever End. As Fester said, enjoyed the fireworks rising above the Manny Road.

I remember deciding to go to that Hartlepool game on New years Day as a last minute decision. Me & my mate tuned up at Burnden & blagged a lift in one of the vans that was on it's way there. We paid a few quid for the lift & we stopped at the services, where everybody robbed it blind - er allegedly. As we arrived at the ground we were warned by the driver not to show the local police we'd been drinking but one of the lads tripped over a bin bag full of empty cans & kicked it all over the road right in front of the police.

 

Anyone remember the bloke who went onto the pitch & refused to be arrested? That's one of the best pitch invasions ever & he did it all on his own, whoever it was. Kept walking towards the police with his hands in front of him as if he was going to give himself up, then running off at the last minute. Very funny.
