Anelka played against Derby & we were still shiite. Quality yes but if we can't keep clean sheets whats the point?

He was contracted for another 4 years after this so if he wanted to go in the summer we would still have gotten 15mill for him then, maybe more! And why exactly? Just because one of the big four bids for your players it doesnt mean you HAVE to sell! If you have a "gentleman?s" agreement then it has to be met. Alternative - Keep Anelka, get relegated because of a shaky defence & sell him for the ?8m paid in the first place (if lucky). We had to do it once a Champs league side came in for him. Plus he deserves to be playing in front of bigger crowds than ours. Lets be fair to the lad.

Gentlemans agreement my arse!Dado Prso springs to mind? Dado Prso wasn't under contract at the time thou. Signing a new contract meant 2 things: We were able to ask a bigger transfer fee. He got a larger signing on fee. He was going to leave anyway. Everyone's a winner.

Maybe that was part of the agreement, sign here, puts you on a long contract which means we (Thats BWFC) make a good profit on you and for doing this we will give you an extra xxxxx pounds a week, that way both partys get what they want.
