April 11, 200818 yr it was bad enough throwing a game and missing Rangers, but it would of been f?cking awesome going to Italy for a game
April 11, 200818 yr Gary Megson will sail this ship aloooooooone. He is the new messiah. Give him time.
April 11, 200818 yr We went into the Lisbon game on the back of 3 straight league defeats (Portsmouth,Blackburn,Liverpool) so i don't see why resting players in Lisbon was a factor in them losing at Wigan,it just carried on the run of defeats. This pool of players aren't good enough as a team whether they are confident or down in the dumps.Last season we took 12 points from those 4 fixtures this season we took none. The result against a disinterested Man City side was poor but it was only the same as the 0-0 v Fulham a few weeks before Lisbon. We've lost the only good striker we had and have a poor midfield. Blaming Lisbon for our bad results is giving a poor squad of players an excuse for their failings imo. Spot On, George

We all know the midfield is poor, but what would you prefer - just accept it and give the season up? A win in Lisbon (and I'm not saying we would have, but) would've boosted morale, instilled some belief, confidence and spirit into our beleagured lot. And who knows where that would've taken us...

And who knows where that would've taken us... the lisbon desicion served nothing more than to p?ss off the players don't forget, we did madrid and then got done 4-1 at Rovers, but with a decent performance we could well have still had the same set of results post lisbon but at least it we may have seen our team go down fighting with some team spirit i think it's that which we lost when the first team didn't travel to lisbon

Agreed, we've been shit all season despite some famous European results, so European progression didn't co-incide with positive results in the league then. Like has been said, we came home from beating Madrid only to collapse 15 minutes into the second half against Blackburn and ended up getting dicked. And we came home from a famous night in Munich and couldn't put a goal past Boro at home. If those were performances from sides brimming with confidence then i must have missed them. Obviously it would have been nice to try, but i'm not convinced it would've made a massive difference. I don't think we'd have beaten Rangers and i doubt we'd have gone on an unbeaten run. It's all coulda woulda shoulda now though. Edited April 11, 200818 yr by Tombwfc
April 11, 200818 yr After all's said and done, you can't ask a group of players to fight all season to qualify for Europe - then not play them and meekly accept defeat in one of this clubs biggest ever games...and then expect them or the fans to be thrilled about it. I could see why he did it, but I don't know the players and didn't realise it would annoy them so much. Question is, did he? If he didn't - he should have. There again the players shouldn't have sulked about it It's a mess, the whole fookin thing
April 11, 200818 yr That's like saying you're glad you didn't get the chance to shag Angelina Jolie, just in case she has a smelly pussy and a mild case of crabs. she has !! and a big weeping cold sore on a bad day!
