Aston Villa

Featured Replies

In this commercial avarice world of the premier league I was delighted to read that Aston Villa have given up a potential two million pound shirt sponsorship deal and handed the shirt space instead to (Accorns) a local Childrens hospice charity based in the Midlands. Hats off to to them and Owner Randy Lerner, also martin O'neil has said all his future media interview fees will be paid directly to the charity. Well done Villa!. in a time of commercial takeovers by foriegn owners and consortiums buying up premier league clubs, Randy Lerner seems to have a genuine interest in the club and it's supporters other than making bucks. he re-built the Holte pub and pays for away travel for fans at certain games, Keep up the good work.

That may be the case in the short term, but don't be fooled into thinking he has bought the club for anything other than investment purposes

Its easy to do that when you're owner is worth Billions

It is.

But plenty don't.

The charity would get more money if Villa sold the space and then donated the money...

That doesn't raise the profile of the charity to quite the same extent, though, does it?

True, but if my kid was in a hospice, I know money is better than a high profile when it comes to providing care. Anyway, a good gesture, well done Villa.

And in doing so if he can help the supporters and local charities etc, so what?

Maybe he's just into ethics...they're a funny lot them yanks

Just a thought, why didn't he take the 2mill sponsorship and give it to the hospice. JSL.

Still a good gesture.

EDIT - Note to myself, read ALL the threads before fooking posting. :pardon:

Fair enough, hats off that it's been done, but ?2 mil in the world of Randy Lerner is not a lot. I would assume that a lot others have a philanthropic side which isn't so widely covered as it doesn't involve sponsorship etc.

that maybe so

I'm as cynical as most when it comes to stuff

but it's good to see a foreign investor taking these steps and looking after the interests of the club and community in such a way

better that than the antics of the other two yanks at Liverpool

I bet he's only been there to see West Ham v Villa

absolutely

Guess it would be more accurate had they played Saarfend in the cup, but I like your point
