BOLTON WANDERERS has added two more fixtures to its pre-season calendar with trips to Macclesfield and Chorley arranged.

 

Wanderers will face Coca Cola League Two outfit Macclesfield Town on Saturday 26 July 2008 (Kick Off 3:00pm) at the Moss Rose.

 

A short journey to Victory Park on Saturday 2 August (Kick Off 3:00pm) will see Wanderers face local non-league side Chorley.

Is anyone else a little beuninspired by our pre-season programme so far. I know that pre-season isn't just about getting glamour ties with big clubs and its about trying out formations, players and systems and gaining fitness but surely it order to fully test these different things you need to be playing against the standard of teams you get in the Premier League.

 

Last season we played in the Peace Cup against Lyon and a spanish side i can't remember and then a game against Espanyol we won 3-0, a scottish side ( i think i was Hibernian) and one or two other lower league sides like Colchester.

 

It seems to me that that was a good balance. However this season we seem to be playing quite a lot of average or poor sides with the execption maybe of AEK and Ado Den Haag. I hope we have at least one good glamour game.

 

What do other people think? Are they happy with a boring pre-season?

They club can't win can they?

I don't know many who could get the cash or would want to part with as much as a trip to S.Korea would cost. Therefore we didn't really see much of that cup. This season they've sorted a couple of games in Greece, which a fair few can afford and are going on. And fair play, sounds like a belting jolly.

You really can't please all the people all the time can you, especially Wanderers fans.

I tell you what I think, shall I?

 

I think that some folk will currently find any old reason to find something negative about the way the club and the manager are approaching things.

 

I'm only assuming here, so bear with me. The local games like Macc, Chorley, Donny and Rochdale will be used for a variety of reasons ie they are better for our senior players than just doing training drills at Euxton. They are also a good opportunity for some of the reserves/youth players to play at a higher level than they are used to.

 

The foreign games are good for our players to play against different formations, systems and tactics: AEK are no mugs, Aris were in the UEFA last season. It will also be quite warm in Greece in early-August, so it will double up as warm weather training.

 

Finally, there is always one home friendly, so I expect that to be announced fairly soon.

 

All in all, i'm happy with the plans.

If they dont play Athy LR then they can fcuk off.

I'm not necessarily saying that i want to go to these games. I didn't go to Korea or Asia and i doubtmany fans would or could. What i'm merely saying is that somre more competitive games against better standard of opposition would be more beneficial than playing against Chorley! Not from a financial or supportes perspective but from a players and staff perspective in getting them at peak condition for the start of the season

Never thought i'd see the day when someone was complaining because we're not doing something Sammy Lees way.

The worse BWFC do in pre-season the better we usually start in the actual season.

The year we walked The league (under todd) I dont think we won a game.

Last year under Lee we were mostly good (hibs apart) until the serious stuff started and then looked like we'd never seen each other before!

Moral is take pre-season as fitness toning only.

I remember going to Carlisle in that pre-season and losing in the last minute.

 

Roll on the start of the season - thats when it counts who and how you play.

So Marple, i take it were going to Mac then via yours with the return leg at mine the week after?

fookin typical bwfc , why couldnt they just arrange friendlys away at majorca and tenerife . sick of these rubbish freindlys at macclesfield and chorley , for that reason i will not be renewing my season ticket .

for what it's worth, I'd rather have a w?nk with a handful of razorblades that attend another pre season friendly
