Well it is clear the club are giving it a right go in the transfer market, anyone care to comment that the club have no ambition? it rings hollow when we have supposedly sold only 7000 season tickets, Derby county sold 19,000 before last season ended, despite the apathy shown by the Bolton public, we are still linked with a host of new players and the club has publicly stated that the spending will continue.

i,ve been going regulary for over 40 years, and apart from the odd spell here and their our numbers have always been shite, and vocal support has usually been poor

it has, we never sold out at burnden that first season in the premier. crowds and size of club wise i would equate us to a pompey. doesnt mean we can't be successful. they seem to have got their heads around being a club of that stature and have decided to back them with the vocal side of things. that old saying that size doesn't matter springs to mind and it's what you do with it. hence old trafford/scum HQ resembles a morgue more often than not and fratton park is pumping. things can change though and the end of season away support was pretty awesome imo. if that can be carried on into next season should be good and a good few enjoyable days out had. roll on newcastle away bank holiday weekend.

Man Utd got beat by Everton in the League Cup on the same day, so a party ensued in the car park on the way out. Oh and a juke box got thrown through a pub window when The Wanderer came on if I remember correctly.......

 

And a former poster got arrested for underage drinking! Not too bad a day out all considered......!

Bolton and Pompey may be similar sized but if you look at a radius of (say) 35 miles from the centre circle there are some big differences:

 

50% of pompey's 35 mile radius is inhabited by fish!

There isn't another Premiership club within the 35 miles although nearby Southampton does attract its own support. Because of history very few Portsmouth dwellers would go support Southampton.

 

Whilst all of Bolton's 35 mile radius is land, it also contains a further half-dozen Premiership clubs. Poorer clubs (unfortunately this once applied to Bolton) lost fans to other; more successful clubs.

Kids these days can pick and choose who to support and, unless their parents are avid supporters of a particular team, then the kids have no sense of history.

apart from the ~Premiership clubs there are a number of others.

 

basically, we have a finite amount of income in the North west area which needs to be spread around a number of clubs. Pompey doesn't!
