Something you almost won't hear about in the press is the saddened news that the ex Oldham, Rochdale & Grays Athletic, Ernie Cooksey passed away last night. He was a true Midfielder gave everything, one of the smallest on the field, but always the tallest in the air.

"We have this morning been advised that our former midfielder Ernie Cooksey passed away in the night having finally lost his battle against the cancer known as Malignant Melanoma. His family and girlfriend Louise, who is expecting their first baby in 5 weeks, were at his side in the hospital.

 

Everyone at Rochdale Football Club is terribly saddened by this news and our thoughts, prayers and best wishes go to his family at this tragic time.

 

Rest in Peace Ernie ."

Terrible, Terrible news, watched him play for Dale and was very impressed with his work ethic and level of ability, what ablow for his wife, and a baby to be born without meeting there Dad is beyond sad. RIP

apparently he was such a commited player - and the fans saw him as "one of the lads" - no chip on his shoulder, nothing too much trouble, etc...... that they had t-shirts with his name on... you don't have to be a jizzlobbing supercock like Ronaldo to make an impact on other folks lifes..... just honesty and graft.
