Khan wants to meet Hatton in super fight

8:00pm Tuesday 19th August 2008

By Marc Higginson ?

AMIR Khan and Ricky Hatton are being lined up for a sensational ?50million super fight next summer.

Both fighters want the fight to happen and Wembley Stadium is being tipped as the venue for an anticipated 100,000 crowd.

The Battle of Britain between Bolton hero Khan and Manchester superstar Hatton would be the biggest domestic fight since Nigel Benn and Chris Eubank had their epic battles in the 1990s.

It would be the biggest fight of Khan?s career, with the unbeaten 21-year-old stepping up from lightweight.

Hatton says he would fight Khan ?at the drop of a hat? after sweeping all before him at light welterweight throughout a distinguished career.

And Khan is relishing the prospect of going head-to-head with The Hitman in a fight which would grab the imagination of the British public and generate an estimated ?50million.

?What a fight it would be,? Khan said.

?I?ve always said I want to move up the weights to light welterweight, maybe in 12 months, and if Ricky is still around that fight could be made.

?It would be a massive fight. Both of us come from Manchester and it is a fight that people would want to watch ?It would be one of the biggest British fights ever and you?d have a lot of people watching it.?

The one stumbling block to the fight would be Hatton?s insistence that Khan?s promoter Frank Warren was not involved in the fight.

Warren promoted Hatton until the pair fell out shortly after the Manchester fighter signalled his arrival as one of the world?s best when he stunned Kostya Tszyu in June 2005.

Hatton is keen to promote the fight under the banner of his own company, Punch Promotions, in association with Oscar De La Hoya?s Golden Boy Promotions.

Hatton, who will fight Paulie Malignaggi in Las Vegas on November 22, said: ?Amir has got bags of potential, but he has a lot of catching up to do.

?If the fight did happen I?d be up for the challenge.

?And if I could promote it, even better. Amir would get the financial rewards he deserves.?

The bookmakers are already compiling odds on the fight, with Hatton rated as 1/9 favourite to win with Khan 5/1.

Khan said it'd be good as "We're both from Manchester" when on about it. I'd want Hatton to win, for sure as McClaren would say.

Hatton to win in the 2nd round, wiping Khan's kidneys off his gloves with the splinters of Amir's ribcage as he leaves the ring.

sounds good enough for me

Amir Khan for me as he's from Bolton.

Although Fighters sometimes struggle making the step up in weight classes so i reckon Fatton would win

Amir Khan for me as he's from Bolton.

Only when it suits.

I would love to see him knocked out.

Now he is from Manchester, When Liverpool got to Champions League Final he said " I hope WE win"....and was their at the match!!!

He is Bolton fan when he is fighting in Bolton!

Orrible tw?t!

Hatton is in a different league to Khan.

Michael Gomez dropped Khan last fight - Hatton is 2 weight classes bigger than Gomez, a FAR higher class fighter, and nowhere near as shot.

They'd both make a pretty penny out of it but Hatton would brutalise him.

As to who I'd want to win, I support all our fighters so it'd be a tough one to call.

I couldn't care less, but it would probably be a last big payday for Hatton, and with boxing being as it is, the result would be fixed in favour of a Khan win

for some reason it all seems a strange mis-match.

but think Hatton would come out on top.

Hatton would wipe the floor with him IMO!Our Amir(Yeah right)would never of been hit by anyone with Hattons power and would fold like Origami, which i would f*cking love!Amir has made a mint through fighting a load of sh*thouses who are/were past their best!Besides he's a career criminal who should be behind bars anyhow!

if gomez and limond can floor khan than i wouldn't like to see what hatton would do to him....actually i would

Not seen it in the press but was'nt Amir at Bolton Fire Station on Saturday morning helping to raise funds for the fire fighter who was badly burned, can't fault him for that.

That said Hatton would win it for my money. To much experience and power for Amir to handle, in a few years if Amir progresses well enough he'd have a chance but Hatton may well have retired by then.

Why wait until round 2?

Khan's from Manchester as much as Hatton is.

Bolton's as close as Stockport / Hattersley is
