Rate Megson As A Manager

Don't make this into another 'Smegson is a tosser' thread.

It would be interesting if fans just thought about how good of a manager Megson really is in their view, taking into account motivating players , tactics, players he wants in etc. and simply give him a score of how you rate him out of 100. Also take into account what potential he has of moving us forward and shaping a team in the future, not just past results.

In 2 years time when we are in a Uefa Cup position just before christmas 2010 we can look back at this page to see how many points we gave him, and give a new score.

Be as honest as you can and keep comments down to a minimum.

Anyone who puts 0 or 100 can be classed as not putting a serious answer.

sorry homer but its just my opinion that not one of them has proved to me that they are better than what we had or the players they replaced, hence one of the reasons we have gone backwards.

fair enough, but i think they were signed as decent players from their previous clubs. unlike sams signing who were pretty much always unwanted for one reason or another.

i just pray that if megson does end up leaving, another manager proves me right and gets more from these players.

would you turn up to just be abused by some drunken mongoloid?

i know i wouldn't

if we were doing well he'd turn up, pretty sure BSA wouldn;t go after a bad run of results.

10-11 months ago, we'd beaten United & drawn at Bayern. the results had turned for the better ........ he didn't go at that time either.

Also, though I've never been a member, the official supporters association has close links with the club, so I doubt there'd be 'drunken mongoloids' there.

Yeah but we've already established that the official supporrts assoc has some 170 members and isn't, as things stand, representative of our actual supporters.

Quite right.

Which makes it even odder that he hasn't been to see the generally toe-the-line official assoc in 12 months.

I'm assuming you mean he'd hardly dare go & address 'our actual supporters', though the assoc members are surely 'real' supporters too.

have his signings been poor?

rasiak, yes. cohen, possibly, shittu is questionable, rest have been spot on imo.

its making them play as a team thats the problem.

Most (maybe all) of the other players he's signed are decent enough, Homer. And you're right, after deciding who he wanted to sign he now can't get them playing as a team.

But it's also about the midfield pace/creativity and scoring skills that he HASN'T signed - especially when he knew how many midfielders were leaving last summer.

Individually some his signings have been sound enough. Whether they were/are right for Bolton Wanderers FC is probably evident in the league table placing.

Matt Taylor I rate as a football player. I just dont see how and where he actually fits into our team pattern.

Similar with Elmander. I think we have sacrificed Davies too much to accomodate him. He obviously is a good player, yet will we ever see the best of him because of our style of play? Stick him in an Villa or City and I have no doubt he will get you goals from in and around the box, but I fear we will not get him in the right positions.

Mumaba .... probably needs a Fat Sam to develop his confidence. I fear Megsons confidence is that low that he will be unable to help the lad.

Riga... Probably the type of player we need, however he has to be the free man / luxury player, as he is not going to offer much in stability. Has plenty of pace which is what our system requires. Minimal money so low risk, but needs games... Dont think he will get them though!

Steinsson.... I like him, although I dont actually believe he has drastically improved the 1st team. For me I would have been concentrating on other areas of the team.

Shittu.... Never a premiership player IMO

Cohen... Worth a chance for the money we paid, and you cant get them right all the time... FS never did

Pole... Again worth the risk for minimal money

This leaves Gary Cahill. Megson has to be given a hugh amount of credit for this, as although he wasnt a big secret there was competition and fair play, GM is one of the reasons Cahill sited as why he signed for us.

As for Megson overall........ 30/100.

Unable to apparentely motivate the team, and doesnt seem to have that much tactical knowledge. Whether he likes the fans or not, is a total kn0b to anyone of everyone, the first two things are the fundermentals in being able to manage a team.

Fergwad down the road was 1 game from the sack! Megson may be that today against City! I do hope he turns it around like the other lot did but I am not holding my breath!

Interesting thing rating someone out of a 100

Makes you think a bit more for some odd reason.

Overall I'd say 45

Right now I'm struggling with giving a 25.
