There's a bar in the St Stephen's Green Hotel and in there I had the best guinness I have ever tasted.

plenty of good places to eat /drink, one tip though bring plenty of money, Ballsbridge is (or was) the yuppy type area of Dublin.

Stay off O'connel Street which is full of plastic paddy bars, and get down the side streets for some pure anti-british hatred but a decent pint.

Temple Bar was the place the younger ones were going too when I visited Dublin about three years ago.

 

I preferred the less trendy places myself.

 

I did the The Dublin Literary Pub Crawl on the first night which I thought was really good (although it may not be to your taste) and also gave me an idea of where places / pubs were around the town centre area for the rest of my stay.

 

There is also a Musical Pub Crawl that you may like to consider.

Check that place out,best pub we went to, having been two years on trot, cheaper too. Temple Bar just for tourists, and a rip-off. Joxer Dalys only 10 mins walk from the main street O'Connell street. Funny locals and a good pint, landlord was great and you get a bit of a lock in till 2 wheres the other pubs close by 12

down one of them pubs smiffs was on about, i saw a dad get picked up by his 10 year old son on horseback to take him home

 

which made the trip for me

whatever you do don't drive in the City Centre it's fooking mental!

 

Buses and taxis diving across 5 lanes of live traffic!!!

 

and as Jimhino said Temple Bar is a rip off!

it wasnt 2 years ago when we went !

 

Last time I was there the landlord of the pub bar where we were staying stopped serving us in the evening. Singing all day with a few scots lads and was told we weren't welcome when the band turned up. Don't think he appreciated me asking if they played proper music or that plinkety plink stuff. Best thing was the locals wouldn't let us leave and kept buying us drinks.

Fitzimmons is the best sports pub in Temple bar, but Temple bar is Feckin expensive.

 

Also like The Foggy Dew just of Temple Bar, have some decent live music. The Arlington across the river ain't bad for live music either
