Political Stuff

Listen you set of opinionated fookbags.

Saying as your the most outspoken set of non fence sitters i know can you please discuss the following ( this is important for something im doing at uni, so have fun, have banter, but please actually put something worth reading too!)

Should the age of voting be reduced to 16?

Consider the 2 quotes taken from a discussion in the big kids playground( Houses of Parliament).

Matthew Green (Ludlow): The Prime Minister will know that at 16 young people are considered old enough to marry, to have children, to pay taxes and to join the armed forces, yet they are not allowed to vote until they are 18. Does he consider that thosethings are a lesser responsibility than voting? Will he meet me and a group of young people from a range of youth organisations to discuss reducing the voting age to 16?

The Prime Minister: I am not sure that we would always want 16-year-olds to do all the things they can do. I am afraid that I do not agree with the hon. Gentleman on the voting age. I think that it should remain as it is.

Im not asking you to do my work for me. Just brainstorm.

Thanks fookers.

Nic

sat in the library at uni surrounded by smelly people, folk who are asleep at their desks and power crazed librarians who obviously need a good seeing too.

as long as they are educated on politics then why not- how many scrotes will be bullied into voting labour (or any other party) because thats what their parents have forced upon them? my dad once tried following my sister into the booth to ensure voted correctly. maybe cos were from lh, and thats how we roll

It's a difficult one Missus C. and I suspect you would have to critically analyse both answers and then say which you would prefer to happen. :pardon:

Im allowed to fence sit on this one bud, basically need arguments for and against then back them up with any publications/articles/interviews etc. Im asking on here for the things you dont get in the textbooks- the opinion of those who never get asked about such things! Im gonna compare that to the political arguments and see how out of/ or in touch the policy makers are with the real world.

I always have to go off on some mad tangent.

If you gave a 16 year old the vote; chances are he wouldn't use it. If you told the same 16 year old that he was going to get a vote but now he isn't he'd demand to know why, even though he wasn't going to use it.

For the record, I agree with the sugestion that all young people should be given a test in order to qualify to vote. . . better still, how about everybody has a short test, nothing too difficult; something like:

Here are two sentences, delete the words in each which don't belong there.

I don't know were/wear/we're/where it went.

I'm going to town tomorrow, are you coming to/too/two?

That ought to see a few losing their right to vote.

on this POLITICAL STUFF how long do you heft to live hear to vote hear can any TOM DICK and HARRY vote

Race is irrelevant on this issue.

i would strugle with that micky :yahoo:

I don't know

I'm going to town

That ought to see a few losing their right to vote.

Is that the answer :yahoo:

A resounding 'no' from me. Quite simple really. Young uns are generally predisposed to be idealist dream merchants and as such, the vast majority would be socialist voters (if they voted at all). I can't think of a better reason to reject this idea.

You wouldn't have to have too great and IQ to work out why the Labour Party would campaign for it.

a 16 year old tax payer has more right to a vote than a 21 old at uni who has never even looked at a job

if youre paying tax you should have a say where it goes

It's a demographic thing. 16 year olds would use their vote almost immiedietly. It's a bit like turning 18 and being able to buy booze legally. They won't wait one day later, they'll be straight down The Red Lion (with ID in the back pocket just in-case) buying their first pint. Transfer that over to politics. Give a 16 year old the vote they will be itching to use it. If we're not carefull the 16 vote could out vote the country and before you know it Leona Lewis in PM and Scouting For Girls will be in the Cabinet.

No no no no no!!!
