No, the ref should book every player within 6 feet of him. That'd sort it out at the big clubs. . . strange how 'crowding' the ref happens a lot at the top 4 or 5 clubs but rarely anywhere else. Is it because the top players actually believe their own hyped up publicity?

He could've been an inspiration to young lads all over the country. He's clearly been dragged up by a shoplifting slapper but yet has still made something of himself. Instead he's become the same as many other professional footballers. An arrogant prick who thinks rules only apply to others.

Then again, I blame the press. Lads like Baked Bean Brown do a lot of work for young lads and gets almost no publicity as it's not interesting for the salacious public.

I don't know why they never brought in the Rugby Union move the kick on 10 yds rule. It would stop all these planned protests. wall not moving back shenanigans for kicks on the edge of the area. The ref would just give a penalty.

Refs could use exisiting rules to stamp out players hassling them or not retreating 10 yds for free-kicks etc, but they haven't got the bottle to do it against the big 4 or 5 clubs and the FA haven't got the bottle to back them up anyway.

I thought it was because it sometimes went against players like Beckham who, if the free-kick is moved 10 yards towards the goal he diesn't have time to lift the ball and then get it under the bar.

 

They could easily have given the team the choice of whether or not to move the ball forwards.

Zozzy I don't often read your posts and disagree, but on this occasion I'm afraid I disagree with it all.

 

All IMO of course but I think that once the ball is put on the floor and he is subject to either pace or skill then he is shown up to be nowhere near as good as he is hyped up to be. In the air there aren't many better, with the exception of maybe Vidic, and his bravery and leadership are second to none. But for a player to be described as one of the best in English football, and in many cases in the media one of the best in the world, I would want somebody far more capable on the deck. I also think he is half the player when he doesn't have Carvallho (not a clue how to spell it) next to him, again I would expect somebody rated so highly to be able to adapt when partnered with the 3rd choice centre back at a club (although I do agree that some drop in standards is acceptable due the break in partnership).

 

Personally I would have Rio in my team every time ahead of Terry, I still think he is good enough to be the 2nd of the England centre back pair, but IMO Rio is by far the maore capable and more important player. As for the captaincy I would have liked to have seen it go to Gerrard, just to try and make him become as influential for England as he is for the Scoucers, but then again you could argue that he is not the main player in the team and he is not played in his preffered position and therefore couldn't perform as well as he does for the scoucers.

I think on that point I agree with both of you Bolty. Although I would have liked to have seen it go to Gerrard, as I said I was sceptical of whether it would of worked or not. As the risk was probably not worth it then my next pick would have been Terry, as although I consider Rio to be the better player I do think that Terry's leadership and bravery amongst other captains attributes are top notch and therefore I believe Terry to make the better captain.

 

This would bring a problem if there was ever a need to choose one or the other (if I was picking the team), because I would be choosing between the better player and the captain, but as this problem will never arise I suppose I won't have to worry myself too much about the outcome.

alongside Rio or Carvalho he looks very solid but without the technically better player alongside him he gets a bit sloppy.
