Pedantically speaking we are no longer an island due to the Channel Tunnel.

Nope, it's still an island, pedantic or not.

Not arguing the point but suffice to say I agree with the other comments you have made so far!

Do we want to be closer to the war-mongering, internationally ignorant yanks (not all of them but the vast majority), though?

There isn't a point to argue:

An Island: A land mass, especially one smaller than a continent, entirely surrounded by water.

The tunnel is beneath the water's surface.

Australia is both a continent and an island. I wonder if every Australian lost control of their bladders, would Australia become an "incontinent"?

You must be joking - the Yanks (excluding North East Coast i.e. New York area) cannot stand us and think most of us are pompous barstards who live in castles with moats and all speak the queens english. Although, I must admit, yanks are very easy at winding up!

Love the fact they think they can use the Dollar in both Euro-zone and in the UK!!! Can you imagine if we try the same in the States? ::lol::

I am a euro-ite and believe in the future of the EU as a super-power (once it becomes more democratic than it is at moment) so really do not want to get into politics. Except this one question I will ask only ever once... would you rather be part of the US (which is struggling financially like the UK) as the 51st state or be part of a community where the similarties are more apparent than between ourselves and the US - its one or the other as the UK is as dead as a dodo (we are bankrupt and need to be part of a larger body - many reasons why and not just front office risk-taking bankers)?

what an utterly nonsense post?

how are we to know who the rapists/muggers/flashers are until they carry out the act?

Exactly, so just to be on the safe side, we should shut the doors, have cannons on the beaches, and drop human muck on anybody attempting to paddle into the country

We have had different experiences in most things it seems. I worked for a US Corporation, based in Milwaukee, from the early 90's until mid 2005. I would disagree with you strongly.

Spent plenty of time in places like Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Illinois, Colorado and, obviously, Wisconsin. This particular 'limey' found nothing but fantastic hosts; Brit lovers and an overwhelming feeling that the historical alliance is very strong.

Predictably, one exception to this general feelgood story was a visit to an Irish pub in Chicago when World Cup qualifiers were on. The Irish upstairs; us downstairs. Various republican shiyte posted throughout the place and clear disdain for the 500 or so Englanders from the bar staff and pub management (happy to show the match and take our cash though). Not sure how but a street 'get together' failed to happen. The anticipation made for an electric atmosphere though.

Regarding the second bit of your post I have highlighted, I can categorically confirm that you are wrong. I have never had problems getting the Dollar accepted anywhere within the US.

I actually like the Americans, they are all thick as pigshit but their hearts are in the right place

Spent some time in California, they loved us and we were always getting free drinks becuase someone sent them over

In fact, I watched the 95 Cup Final in a bar in the US, the conversation went something like this

Widnes 'Carlos (the bar owner) are you putting the FA Cup final on tomorrow?'

Carlos 'Sure, what time is soccer on'

Widnes 'It's about 9am'

Carlos 'Fucking hell Widnes, I don't close til 4am, I won't be up, tell you what, I'll leave the keys with the cleaner, help yourselves to drinks and just write down what you've had'

Widnes 'Thank you my good man'

Anyhow, we turned up the following day at the bar, the door was open and there was instructions on the bar how to tune the satellite system in

Been to San Diego, Atlanta, Anaheim, LA, Cincinati and Vagas and all the yanks I met loved the English, it's cause we have the best serial killer and they have no history
