There was an American in the Boars Yed last night who's lived here a year or two. I never knew a foreigner had ever been to Leigh apart from Rico Caselli up Westleyth and the two different Andrusjak families from Ukraine who've been in the town for yonks.

 

He was on about Texas and said 'it's even worse than fuckin Wigan, man.'

 

So on that basis, they're not all bad people.

Will I've done a far bit of travling around Texas, and I can tell you its fuck all like Wigan ... oh and as Bolty and Widnes have both said great hosts, as soon as they hear your voice they all want to know everything about you and where come from etc

We have had different experiences in most things it seems. I worked for a US Corporation, based in Milwaukee, from the early 90's until mid 2005. I would disagree with you strongly.

 

Spent plenty of time in places like Arizona, Nevada, Florida, Illinois, Colorado and, obviously, Wisconsin. This particular 'limey' found nothing but fantastic hosts; Brit lovers and an overwhelming feeling that the historical alliance is very strong.

 

Predictably, one exception to this general feelgood story was a visit to an Irish pub in Chicago when World Cup qualifiers were on. The Irish upstairs; us downstairs. Various republican shiyte posted throughout the place and clear disdain for the 500 or so Englanders from the bar staff and pub management (happy to show the match and take our cash though). Not sure how but a street 'get together' failed to happen. The anticipation made for an electric atmosphere though.

 

Regarding the second bit of your post I have highlighted, I can categorically confirm that you are wrong. I have never had problems getting the Dollar accepted anywhere within the US.

 

I agree totally, having lived in the midwest for six years now. I can honestly say I have never met an American who hates the Brits.

TBH mate - I can't remember. Me Vietnam Vet mate from Richfield, Wisconsin knew the place and knew I was desperate to see the game. He warned me it was a Noraid pub.

 

Just remember it was fecking huge and not far from Scooterworks (well, I would remember that, wouldn't I? )
