November 21, 200916 yr Anyone read the BEN? Allardyce saying how the whites didnt have the same ambition he had. Hope we beat them fuckers tomorrow?
November 22, 200916 yr does anyone on here think if we had spent ?15m that we would have got in top four ? you get an average top level defender for that. sam wanted enough money to make us a top four team, the club did nt have that money so he left. Look at Arsenal's signings and see what standard of player they get for under ?15 million.... At the time Allardyce resigned their record signing was under ?15 million.Even now their record signing is exactly ?15 million. An average defender or Arshavin? Quality managers know how to work the transfer market.Wenger and Allardyce are quality managers..

I am with Ian on this one, the fact of the matter is we were the luckiest team in the world to be any where near the top 4 in January that year we played the 4-5-1 religiuosly and squeezed a lot of flooky wins on the back of some top performances from Gary Speed, however by christmas the wheels were falling off you could see our midfield was tired and slow, the team as a whole was mediocre at best. At the time I was of the same mind as Alladyce, but looking back in the cold light of day even with a masive cash investment in January we would not have broken into the top 4 that season.

November 22, 200916 yr I thought he took over from Sammy Lee. He did indeed but some folk forget that

Quality managers know how to work the transfer market.Wenger and Allardyce are quality managers.. Do you think if we had given Sam ?15M we would have made the top 4 ? If over the last 10 years we had invested ?ms in a youth system and scouting network so that we were picking up academy players like fabregas that work their way through into the first team then maybe the comparison with Arsenal would have some credability. If we accept that Sam is as good a manager as wenger, bolton as a town is as attractive as London and as a club as attractive as Arsenal we could have signed an Arshavin with that addition would we have finished top 4 ? i rate sam very very highly i wish he was still here, i said when he left bad move for us, bad move for him. He wanted more investment the club was nt prepared or capable of giving him the money he wanted he left, understandable form bith sides. his track record with signings at newcastle hardly adds weight to your arguement but i do beleive given a decent amount of time his team would be top half premiership as a minimum. as i say would we have finsished top 4 with ?15m spent ?
November 22, 200916 yr ...and now the ambitious fool is at Blackburn, selling off all the decent players Mark Hughes had and buying cheaper numpties. I rest my case m'lud.
November 23, 200916 yr You can call him all you want, but under Sam we never had it so good, a few droped bollocks in the transfer market, but overall quality signings and regular beatings of the big boys....apart from Cahill the Ginger one has signed nothing but dross, and now beating Everton is considered a top result

Problem with our fans is they want those sorts of results but can't stand the ego which goes with it. Those without that ego (I prefer the term self belief) wouldn't go for a Djorkaeff, Okocha or other world renowned names. That really was the golden era of our great club and we will never see the like again. Sad but true.

There are some people post on here who reckon that the grim 2 years we've had under Megson are a continuation of the glorious era we had under Sam.For those people not getting relegated = glory.
