South Coast Derby

Featured Replies

why do the southern media think this game has any national interest

would they be bigging it up if it was us and north end

i think not

aye but they fucking hate each other, possibly more so than any other local derby.

Plus if the press stir it up they're more likely to get some sort of 'hooligan shame' style story out of it

Hope So'ton turn Portsmouth over, that club is an embarrassment to football!

What a load of bollox, I see Southampton have never been in financial trouble?

Hope Pompey turn the scummers over!

It's overhyped in the media but they do hate each other and its guaranteed to kick off, and if you think blackburn and burnley are inbred, have a look at the people of portsmouth

is this game interesting to anbody other than the stated clubs?

id say no, hardly the buenos aires derby is it?

To be fair, i'd take either of them in the next round. Pompey have done well to royally fuck up their finances with todays TV money though.

The way things are going for Pompey at the minute, it is qyuite possible that they won't even be able to play the match. The court hearing is on 10th February, with the match scheduled for the following weekend. Even if they are not wound up, they may well be booted out by the FA if they enter administration. They would have to get written permission from the FA to play the match. Failure to do so will give Southampton a bye into the quarter finals.

would be brilliant if harry redknapp was like their guest of honour, did like the halftime lifeline draw or something

There's a lot of history between the two teams.

We often hear about the Wigan and Leigh miners having a dislike of each other because of strikebreaking. This bitterness is, after a long time, beginning to wane.

No such thing on the South Coast where supporters of Pompey and Southampton are still bitter rivals because of strike breaking on the docks.

The strike story does the rounds as often as the one about a player/Will Young shagging the chairman's wife/John O'Shea.

And your point is?

I'll be honest, I'm more interested in this game than the Buneos Aires derby

should be good, specially with the recent history between the 2, like Frandsen said already, Redknapp to due to the half time draw

Bolton aside, it's the stand out draw fer me in the next round

Pompeys transfer embargo has been lifted by the way...

I always like games like this, I always feel derbies are best when they haven't been played for a while, the Swansea/Cardiff games were great least season

The derbies that are played every year such as Merseyside never seem as good, other than the odd Manchester game I can't remember a decent derby game in the PL recently

Villa - Brum IMO mate. Like Rangers-Celtic with a bit of extra hate thrown in.

Someone doubting the Southampton Company Union Men story? Always believed it to be fact (certainly according to skates and scummers in our scooter club down here).

Find any proof anywhere & I will be happy to be proven wrong.

As far as I am aware Portsmouth has always been a non-unionised Royal Naval dockyard so if anyone was more likely to be strike breakers it is that lot.

The strike breaker story was also wheeled out after that wee bit of nonsense at West Ham-Millwall earlier this season.

I'd imagine there'll always be a bit of rivalry, even before the football, between neighbouring townships. It's got to be caused by something.
