Can't argue with that, 40 points just about enough

tell me the last season a team has needed this "magical" 40 points to stay up!?

fair point, 38 then. just studying run ins, ours is trickier than most.

I reckon 36 will stay up this year. We will stay up but we are making it a lot more uncomfortable for oursleves than it should be.

it wouldn't be Bolton if we made it easy for ourselves!

Wins: Blackburn Rovers A, Wolves H, Wigan Athletic H, Portsmouth H

Draws: West Ham United A, Birmingham City H, Sunderland A, Wigan Athletic A,Stoke City A

Losses: Manchester City A, Everton A, Manchester United H, Aston Villa H, Chelsea A, Tottenham Hotspur A

1997-1998 Everton 40 points, guess who went down on GD

2001-2002 Mackems 40 points 17th Ipswich 36 points

2002- 2003 Bolton 44 points 17th World Cup Winners 42 points

As for this season 40 points minimum for 17th place.

JSL :pardon:

So the magic number that year was 37 whistle.gif

Agreed - I think 40 may not be enough this year - all the lower teams beating each other, and also picking points up off the big clubs.

when we went up and west ham went down, they had 42 points, we had 44

when we went up and west ham went down, they had 42 points, we had 44

exactly, how long ago was that?

Number of points of the team finishing 3rd bottom:

08/09 34

07/08 36

06/07 38

05/06 34

04/05 33

03/04 33

02/03 42

01/02 36

00/01 34

99/00 33

So an average of 36 points over the last decade has been good enough to stay up

I did the bbc predictor and had Burnley 3rd bottom on 31 points. We got 39 but that was before i knew about Cahill.

i had us on 39 before the fulham game, so 37 now. whoever i had 3rd bottom had 33, but that also included hull losing to city. so its alot closer now. i give us a point at wigan too. theyve a free weekend while we play a cup game before we play them next midweek. thats going to help them you would of thought. weiss has to play v them next week especially as he cant play tomorrow or sunday.

ok, I think you're missing the point though

generally 40 points is good enough to keep you up

so that's what teams aim for

36 points is not a target, as you'd have gone down 3 times in the last decade

Never said that 36 points was a target, just pointing out that in 9 of the last 10 seasons this "magical" 40 points was more than enough.

Yes 40 points is a good target but so is 38 or 39. :pardon:

just pointing out that in 9 of the last 10 seasons this "magical" 40 points was more than enough.

which is precisely why it's a target for every team at the start of the season...

you see?

ive always considered a point a game is relegation form.

But in 9 of the last 10 seasons a point a game has been good enough to stay up.

I think it will be the same this season, plenty of teams taking points off each other.

what ever happens...

its going to the last game of the season...

and a nail biter...

hopefully Brums run of form will have ended...and they will have fuck all to play for....
