just found out that if portsmouth go into administration, not only do they get docked the 10 points (think its 10) but every team thats beaten or drawn against them gets the points removed, like wise if they got beaten they get the points back.

 

i can't see how this is in anyway fair, but its the FA that make the rules, does anyone know anything about this?

What is HMRC doing allowing Portsmouth to run up a debt of ?12m anyway? I have not read anything about this, so dont know the facts, but surely this has built up over a number of years and its only now, when Portsmouth are fucked, that they want their money back.

 

It doesn't take very long for a Premier League club to run up such a bill- months rather than years. The winding-up petition is a last resort. Portsmouth have made no attempt to pay what they owe, hence the trouble they are in. HMRC know that there is next to no chance of them ever seeing their money, and all the while the debt to HMRC grows. It isn't all VAT at either 15% or 17.5%, either. Some of it is players' PAYE and National Insurance. For a footballer on Premier League wages, the majority of the tax they have to pay is at the top 40% tax rate. Even if it's only 20 players on ?20,000 a week each (although we know it's much higher), the tax would be about ?1mn a month. It was more like double that over the period the debt was run up- and that's before VAT.

 

It's all a relatively short term debt that HMRC are demanding. Imagine what the public revenue would be cheated out of if every football club were allowed to do the same as Pompey. Pompey cannot get away with it. The consequences for the country in general would be far worse than the loss of one badly managed football club- as painful as that is for its fans and those of us affected by losing points accrued against Pompey.

As they're already at the bottom of the league without any points deduction surely you have a strong case for them adding any points deduction back on and if they're still below the 19th placed club . . .
