Carlos Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Yep, I don't understand how only Barcelona being in it would make La Liga more competitive. Or the DMBs making our league more competitive. Does not compute.
DazBob Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Remember under KK when the likes of Newcastle got promoted and then were challenging for the title? Remember when Cloughie won the European cup with Forest? Those days are long, long gone as the gap between the haves and the have-nots is too vast But hey, as long as you get your fix of regular Man U v Barca, Chelsea v Real Madrid, Arsenal v Milan matches that makes it better right? Look, don't get me wrong, the CL is a great spectacle (well, apart from last night) but the kind of money involved has turned the Premier League into a farce. Unless a sugar daddy comes in and takes over your club then you KNOW you will not be able to challenge for the title. Just look at the sums of money involved. That's why teams would rather finish 4th than win the FA Cup. Do you think that's right?

Does not compute. It doesn't compute because you're not looking at the bigger picture. If there were less teams competing in it then there would be less money available to the participants. How are teams that don't finish in the top four supposed to compete with those who, simply by finishing 4th (ie winning NOTHING!), get tens of millions more cash each season??
Carlos Posted April 28, 2011 Posted April 28, 2011 Generally speaking, a team like Spurs who aren't a particularly big club scrape into the Champions League then don't have the resources to compete on all fronts. The reason we can't compete with Man Utd, Arsenal and Chelsea is little to do with the money they've made from Europe. Meanwhile, our league has been competitive this year hasn't it? The only uncompetitive one are where teams with 50,000 crowds play ones with 1200.

I have been saying this for quite a while, the champions league is my pet hate it will kill of the Premiership if it is allowed to, the money involved in the champions league means that the top 4 can run 2 top class teams, all other teams are making up the numbers in the prmier league and struggle to compete on anything like a level playing field, it will become the norm when teams like bolton go 20-30games without beating a top 4 team.
