May 23, 201115 yr Don't touch screwfix- bought one and returned it the next day- total shite made cheap by Mountfield for the 'spring' market. Depends upon what you need it for. Just bought a lightweight Masport- never heard of them before- but does the trick. Go to a proper shop- not B&Q etc; it's good to have back up service and expertise. Got mine from this chap, near by in Bury; looked after my Dad and the Mrs when they were employed as gardeners. My link Got my strimmer from All Seasons; they're on the little industrial estate adjacent to the railway bridge on Folds Road. OK but a couple on times disappointed with aspects of their service. May 23, 201115 yr Seddons on Plodder lane, good after sales and very good if you need a few bits for it in future, like said above, stay away from the D.I.Y chains, mainly sell cheap shit for the season,with usually redundant engine/ motor models that when they do break you'll not be able to get parts for. same actually goes for most power tools in them places also, D.I.Y. market breeds shite quality masked as known names

I bought a 15" rotary non-propelled Mountford petrol mower form B&Q and up till last year got a good 5 or 6 years out of it which for about ?150 wasn't bad going saying I cut twice a week during summer. Blades need sharpening and like any machinery it needed a 'home' service now and again - filters etc but if you look after it its not that bad. They also have a Briggs and Stratton engine in them, which if you know them are pretty good. I'm after a petrol cylinder mower but kep balking at the ?500 cost, thats what you need for a proper lawn, there is a reason why they cut cricket pitched and the like with them and not rotary ones so it all depends on how much you like your lawn.

Like I said- depends what you're using it for- a flat, decent quality lawn and you'll be ok. Watch the weight of the bastards too- ones at work weigh 49+kg- no good if you're doing something where you have to lift 'em on your own.
May 24, 201115 yr Bought a self propelled Mountfield from B&Q in 2007 and it's still going strong now after being used once a fortnight to mow two large lawns (albiet it's faded from racing red, to a nice gay shade of pink). Think I paid ?170 for it and it came with a two year warranty. Providing they aren't neglected or used when the grass is 12" long and piss wet through they should last a good while. Don't put shite fuel in it and keep the oil topped up. Compo - Time served and qualified heavy machinery engineer.
