With the massive growth in social networking they now reckon that everyone in the world is connected by 4 people, who is the most famous person you can get to in 4?

Mine in president Obama

frank whittle :good:

According to newspapers when Facebook floats it'll be valued at $100 billion.

That's one hundred thousand million...$100000000000

It has an estimated 600 million users - all whom pay fook all for the service.

Are they really worth $166 apiece to potential advertisers?

Bag 'o' shite - I hope it goes the way of Myspace. I also don't get why, let's say certain 'loveable rogues' are on it?

Why not simply put on a uniform and do the OB's work for them?

"The prosecution alleges that X, Y and Z are in fact known associates of yours"

"nah guvnor, your barking up the wrong tree, I've never even heard of any of 'em - honest"

"Then please explain this cached Facebook friends page, belonging to you and dated 1st April 2010 - which includes; Bermondsey Dave, Dave Bugle and Hacksaw Dave..."

I don't think it is so much the singular value of advertising to each person. The market research potential is priceless given how ingrained it is becoming in society. It observes everything you do and links it with your friends / family / colleagues.

take it your not on it :pardon:

I am, under a cunning alias - but only to lurk, and see how girls I used to crywank over in the third year at school have let themselves go. And how various 'acquaintances' signpost the direction to nearly all their 'legitimate associates'.

I also am puzzled by folk who have as 'friends' people who they, last time I checked, f*cking hate...

I know that kind of data is like catnip to marketing tw*ts. I can't help giving a lecture on food poverty to anyone who asks me "do you have a nectar card?".

When RFID technology comes down in cost enough it'll be 'smart' wheeliebins and allsorts.

But $100000000000? De Beers is responsible for 40% of total diamond production - last time there was talk of a buyout it was valued at $17 billion - is Facebook really worth over five times De Beers?

Thats 1 in 10 of people in the world!

You dont pay for TV (most dont) but they still pay actors/films etc, where does that money come from.

Facebook has little costs and solid revenue potential. My cousin has the contract for selling Facebook advertising space to any UK companies based outside of London. If you put on Facebook that your interests are Golf then you will see an American Golf advert pop up when you are on it. The type of direct advertising the TV companies would dream of.

I am not on facebook by the way

How many of the 6 billion folk on the planet buy diamonds regularly?

Big cost running the business and alot of profit margin for end retailers as they have to sit on a huge ammount of cash stock value.

Facebook = very low costs + much larger audiance.

Fair play to that Zuckerburg bloke. Turned ?1billion down from microsoft before Facebook had even made a penny.

Facebook make all of their money by selling email addresses, i.e a company could go to them with a certain criteria. I.e Male 25-35, lives in London, works in Finance etc tec

a percentage of the spam emails you get will have at some point come indirectly via Facebook

its a fookin nightmare deleting your account with facebook,
