Hi From Ed

Hi guys - actually joined the forum back in 2008 after a heady night in Madrid but never followed through with a post - must have been drunk when I registered and forgot I even did it...then prompted by an email today I do have a shady recall and am amazed I chose such a cool name as "dingdangdo"....

Anyway - as a loyal wanderer for over 40 years I guess I'll have some obscure and not so obscure points to make in the weeks and months ahead..and looking forward to the banter!

I moved away from Bolton many mons ago and now reside in Milton Keynes so manage to get to London games - though bit worried I might be watching the whites at the MK Dons stadium in the not too distant...

Anyway - howdy to you all - I hope you had a merry christmas and have a great new year - starting with the demolition of those black country idiots on new years eve

Nah - Ed Page - not nearly as wealthy as Mr Davies

I was in the Atletico section behind as I have friends in Madrid (the wife is Spanish). The violence was pretty shocking it has to be said - Bolton fans were well oiled and fairly lively but the cops went completely OTT.

Mind you some of the scenes in Plaza Mayor during the day were not pretty - bolton fans attacking innocent onlookers (I saw it with my own eyes). Didn't like to see that - though doesn't excuse the police actions

They weren't cops, they were thugs.

Yes, it was very unsporting of the Spanish hooligans to come dressed as riot cops.

I know you saw it with your own eyes, but I find that hard to believe.

Me too. If it was the square we were in, I saw nothing more than good natured banter. I know Zico had a bit of a set to with General Franco but, apart from that.......................

Yes there was plenty of good natured banter but come on - you have to admit here was some pretty outrageous stuff going on as well. The square looked like a bomb site when we left. I don't think the bar owners would welcome us back with open arms. I got set on by a group of pissed up right wing thugs wearing Bolton colours for daring to stop them attacking a young Spanish student whose only crime was to observe the strange goings on.

I know he tendency is to blame the cops but lets not delude ourselves that we were all little angels that day.

Did you ask the thugs what their political persuasion was?

Ani's right, you're doing a good job. Well done.

Don't talk to me about the bar owners

We had an OK meal and they tried to charge us twice the published price and despite being arseholed, and without getting overly aggressive, I corrected the bill. Pocket pickers everywhere.

No fair point I assumed they were right wingers when they started singing fuck the pope songs - but there's many a leftie who hates the pope so I'm wrong to assume

Madrid has a problem with pickpockets its true. And the bar owners in plaza mayor are buggars for fleecing tourists -actually it's fairly widespread in Spain - one price for locals another for strangers - I think that's called lassiez faire capitalism. Bit like the taxi driver taking a stranger round a 20 mile trip to get the punter 50 yards to their destination. I've fallen for that one in the UK more than once in my lifetime

Kinell mate - I really don't know where you are coming from? I was there all day and the only outrageous thing I saw was a bunch of twats dressed as Megsons Merry Men. The only thuggery displayed was by Madrids police at the Stadium.

"Right wing thugs dressed in Bolton colours"? FFS. I think that, being a proclaimed red rag visiting one of the unholy trinity (Atletico, St. Pauli and Sellick), you were very likely overcome with revolutionary fervour (and not a small amount of Mahou and San Miggy) and imagined this. No doubt you had the obligatory Palestinian flag with you too?

I saw none of this alleged trouble although I did see plenty off this forum spread all around the perimeter of that square drinking and having a laugh with not the slightest hint of any trouble.

If you want to talk about the activities of Bolton fans in Europe, I would prefer to highlight the great effort in Skopje to assist the orphanage. That twat Big E still needs sorting for his XXXS tee shirt scam but, apart from that, what a fantastic act of generosity. Then again, Englsh football fans doing good things on their travels is hardly newsworthy, is it?

Excellent post - very funny. Maybe you're right - the cheap san miguel from the offy may have got to mi ead

I too was there all day and with the exception of Mr H scaring Boltimoremy just looking at him I saw nowt untoward

And if there was, the big bunch of ahem friendly Spanish coppers stood staring at us from the corner of the square would've been on it in a flash

Therefore, I say dingle dangle is full of it, trying to play some sort of game, wasn't even there or all of the above

I am becoming concerned. Firstly, Sir Francis pays me a backhand compliment and now this. If Whites Man starts along a similar path, it's a fcuking conspiracy.

Reds under the beds.

  • Playing footy kicking the ball up and down to the annoyance of posh residents in apartments around the square
  • Beers cans, vodka bottles, fags and singing wanderers songs
  • A young art student - dressed and painted head to toe in light blue/purple as a living statue - posing for the crowds met - with chant of "get your tits out, get your tits out, get your tits out for the lads"
  • Queues for lavs in every posh bar round the square
  • Local off licences sold out of cheap booze and instructed not to sell any more to blokes wearing blue and white scarves
  • And yes - a small number of twats picking fights on the periphery of the square....

Let's not get all scouse denial about it - we had a great time up till the cops started getting nasty - and the vast majority of the 5000 loyal fans were there for the craic - but we're no different than any other club - we have a few unsavoury types who like to take the opportunity to put the boot in.

I was in the square all day and never saw a hint of trouble. Good natured banter and the bar owners will have been happy with their takings, I'm sure. Yes the square might have been littered with beer cans after we left, but someone was making cash from the sales. As for singing "get yer tits out".... nothing too unacceptable in my book (how big were they by the way?)

I was pickpocketed on the underground after the match but was lucky enough to avoid the thugs in riot gear.

Actually her knockers were of the more petit variety - las tetas peque?as an espa?ol.

Sorry athywhite - I wasn't being sanctimonious - how could I? I joined most of it! (apart from picking fights with innocent onlookers) I was merely pointing out the fact that I was there...as Jules_Darby had raised concerns about the legitimacy of my post.

Sorry If I misled you there fella.
