Tackling

Featured Replies

What is going on these days? If you slide in and don't win the ball you seem to get a red card. I understand the 2 footed "lunge" is dangerous and seems to warrant a red card these days but it seems 2 feet or not if you go in with a bit of force and miss the ball your off.

Is this overprotective refereeing killing the game?

Is it that or the constant analysis by tv and pundits slowing it all down showing every angle the ref never sees then condemning them for not being correct, so now they are that scared of making an reasonable judgment they take the safe option i.e two footed tackle= red card

If I was a professional football player right now, I really wouldn't know what kind of tackle would get me booked (not sent off, that's a bit clearer).

Needs sorting out, cos there's players getting booked for great tackles IMO.

That huth red card is pathetic

I know a good defender stays on his feet but ffs

And Nolan's was richly deserved. And coming too.

I thought this thread was going to be about Zat Knight not bothering doing any tackling

Agree though it should be the only a two footed lunge that gets the red card

I thought it was about petrovs girly attempt in the first half

The constant analysis by tv is defo the biggest factor for me. It is obvious that some refs have this at the back of their mind when they are in the heat of the moment. The rules are clear enough and good enough to protect the players (loss of control etc) but refs are bound to make mistakes and the weaker ones will knowingly take the easy option.

I watched the egg chasing and boxing yesterday and as is always the case with extensive replays of key points even the so called experts could not agree on whether a try was going to be given or if the ref stopped the fight prematurely ....

I'm am less and less sure about more and more technology being used in sport.

I still don't know whether M Davies dived or was tripped against Swansea last week but that didn't stop me jumping up and down like a maniac at the time convinced it was a pen .. Maybe a good thing for my ego that we are not deemed important enough to warrant a replay.
