What's the craic with licensing? Ive seen i need a reg to use On waters such as windermere. Is this a license Just for windermere? Do I need licence for other waters and sea use? Ta muchly I only use my one on the sea, so no licence required,Insurance £300 per year, Mooring's £500 per year that's for a 21ft boat.

Cheers Prob not much help as I look after liabilities and legal/technical advice for cargo and passenger ships but if you're after insurance for inland craft then there are a few brokers or companies with specialities. RYA (Royal Yachting Association) website www.rya.org.uk will be a guide who think it best you do a bit of training before committing to any form of vessel. If you want to buy a boat and insure it then you'll need to declare hull type, age (the boat, not you) length (the boat, not you), mooring details and where you intend to potter. If you want to go offshore I can give you loads of maritime/legal advice etc but if you're staying inshore then have a look at the MCA's site or http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTransport/Boatingandtravellingbywater/RiversAndWaterways/DG_10035946 . Oh, and learn to swim.
