September 20, 201213 yr Come on down Keith http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19649720 My favourite time of the week listening to his interviews. What a man more than that though, hes a fantastic football manager
September 20, 201213 yr dont think he'll get on with garty with views like that. and hes wrong btw. the parachute payment are to ensure clubs that are relegated dont go pop. it gives them time to get their ship in order.
September 20, 201213 yr Author by the way 2+2 and getting 5 but in the interview, slates the parachute payments and then says something along the lines of "if tomorrow, a club whos just been relegated form the premier league came calling...who knows...would i look like some sort of hypocrit then".
September 20, 201213 yr Author the parachute payment are to ensure clubs that are relegated dont go pop. it gives them time to get their ship in order. Thats exactly his point though. its an unfair advantage. You can over spend in the prem, get relegated and then get rewarded for it. Thats not fair on teams like Barnsley already in the championship. It shouldn't be like that. Dont over spend if you do, tough shit

Dont over spend if you do, tough shit we know that now, but for years clubs have spent over and above, which is wrong yes. but as time has passed, the prem money gets further away from the championship money. a club living within its means in the prem will not survive when you cut the supply, in the championship its not a difficult concept. clubs will want to compete. so they will set budgets have worst case scenarios. currenlty that includes parachute payments. could they create a budget without parachute payments. probably, but the league would be worse off for it in terms of quality. Everyone understands the concept, including Keith Hill. Hes saying its not fair on other clubs, which it isnt. Are you denying thats its an unfair advantage? Otherwise I don't understand what you think hes wrong about Edited September 20, 201213 yr by Garrp
September 20, 201213 yr ah so its not fair. what a genius, get him in there... in fact he's underselling himself as a football manager, he needs to move into quantum physics. Edited September 20, 201213 yr by HomerJay

Thats not fair on teams like Barnsley already in the championship. It shouldn't be like that. Dont over spend if you do, tough shit Nice, simplistic thinking there, but it's not as simple as that. Teams who come up generally have to sign at least some players of a better quality than they have. These players come at more of a cost and those players probably won't accept a 1 year contract in case the team gets relegated. The parachute payments, imo, protect clubs from being stuck with players on bigger wages they can only afford if they're in the Barclays Premier League. If we adopt the "fuck 'em" approach and give relegated teams nowt then you'd see a lot more teams either going to the wall (BWFC for one) or teams attempting to compete on an N-Power Championship budget for fear of relegation. The parachute payments at least give the smaller clubs a fall-back and an insurance should they wish to show a little amibition. That's very different to rewarding failure IMO.

Its not nice simplistic thinking. Take the bwfc specs off and look at it from a neutral view. No club has to sign anyone. Blackpool didnt. West Brom havn't done in the past. Blackpool didn't overspendand are now fucking loaded (thanks to the parachute payments). They went down, unlucky thats football, someone has to West Brom surived without overspending and are now reaping the benefits. Parachute payments enable clubs to overspend and give them something to fall back onto if and when they do get relegated. Its good for us, its not fair on the rest of the championship and we wouldn't be having this conversation if it didnt benefit us. Portsmouths problems have nothing to do with not being protected from the gulf in wages between the premier league and the lower leagues, its because they had nobheads in charge who spent more than they should.
September 20, 201213 yr He is a DMB.....his brother-in-law owns Chiefs Barbers on Halliwell Road (he is a DMB as well which is why I dont go there anymore)
September 20, 201213 yr DMB IN! Never, would rather have Gary Neville than some cunt from our town turning his back on his local team.

If it weren't for parachute payments then we'd have been relegated a long time ago. They give the smaller clubs a chance of survival in the top flight. I think that's a good thing, nowt to do with being a BWFC supporter. Blackpool chose not to spend any money and got relegated after their first season.
September 20, 201213 yr He is a DMB.....his brother-in-law owns Chiefs Barbers on Halliwell Road (he is a DMB as well which is why I dont go there anymore) Quite right too, I rarely speak to DMB wherever there fr0m because I just know I wont like them.

One of the most ridiculous points you have ever posted. because we were the only one who had the parachute payments to fall back on? We had it and so did all the other clubs fighting to stay up. take it away and those around us have it taken away as well. have it, get relegated and you are at a massive advantage to the rest of the championship. Which is Keith Hills point. For the record and glad its there because of the position we find ourselves in.
September 20, 201213 yr One of the most ridiculous points you have ever posted. Why, thank you A compliment coming from you.
September 20, 201213 yr Thats not fair on teams like Barnsley already in the championship. Did Barnsley not get a parachute payment, then? I agree with you, by the way. I think there needs to be better distribution of top flight wealth down the leagues, full stop.
September 20, 201213 yr I heard a story, he was lined up to be at Trampmere but he insisted they compensated Rochdale and it fell through. Sounds alright. For a DMB.
