my dad is getting an IPAD having never been on the internet in his life.

he want's it for browsing and watching youtube videos etc

he doesn't want to get broadband line fitted

what's the best way to get him connected to the internet?

Is the only way a dongle? and if so what's the best deal?

or is there another way?

cheers

he's not even got a phone line in his place

and a mobile from 10 years ago

its a car crash waiting to happen as he's genuinely never been on a computer in his life.

he's still using teletext to check his coupon results but i'm confident i can teach him to use livescore.com/futbol24 to check them and give him my login for sky go

if he gets bored and doesn't like it he can sell the ipad but don't want him tied into any phone line/bband contracts.

Garrpy, maybe buy him a second hand iPad first, see how he gets on with that before buying a new one

mrs got a brand new ipad 4 for 269 off ebay recently

still in the film n everything

but no 3g so no good to garpo

3g ipad plus giffgaff data sim.

So he got the ipad and a broadband line.

As I said, he's never been on a computer in his life so it's been hard work teaching him how to use it over the phone. Anyway just about got him using youtube and he's like a kid at christmas. The next stage was to get him to download skygo and watch all the sport and movies he wanted with my login.

Turns out his bird took the ipad to daughters to take photos of grandchild and whilst there daughters bloke installed something called jailbroke?? So he could 'watch all the 'free sport and films he wanted'. Now when he tries to login to skygo he gets a message saying 'skygo can't be used on a jailbroke device'

He struggles with google, never mind this shit.

I told him to tell the dickhead to uninstall it and to fuck off being a pikey. The guy says he doesn't know how to get rid, i mean ffs.

It's impossible for me to do over the phone when i don't even know what it is, so i have two questions.

1) can this be removed or is his brand new ipad now 'chipped' for life?

2) if it can be removed, can he go into apple, explain what's happened and get them to remove it?

Cheers

No and no.

Jailbreaking is like chipping or modding in layman's terms.

Can't be reversed and the warranty is now void.

I'd be telling the dickhead he needs to buy a new one.

Can you not plug it in to a laptop and perform a system update thus deleting the shite he's added.

Aye, I'd imagine you can do a factory reset and start again.

Settings->General->Reset->Erase all content and settings

or something?

aye, looks like its possible according to this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_jailbreaking

what a ball ache this is going to be over the phone but at least it looks like it can be done

Make sure you've copied off everything you want to keep i.e. photos.

It might not be too hard to be honest, having thought about it.

Back it up to icloud or itunes

Reset to factory defaults and then download your saved backup.

That should probably do it.
