Yes, i think every top number 3 in test cricket should be more than competant at opening the batting. If trott was at 3, lets be honest, with Cook's form he would be virtually in from the off anyway.

I think if Cook was to be dropped after this game I think it would go to Bell, who i believe is the official vice captain. However im sure Root will be England captain somewhere down the line.
