Am sure it wasnt just me he made an instant impression on. I just hope he can play like that every week, as long as he starts instead of diouf (he really is shit). and also that is the best game i have seen Stelios play since we signed him (maybe villa semi final apart).

I thought Diouf played ok on the right wing. I thought Stelios was fantastic, but at times a little greedy.

 

Nicky Hunt is worrying me a little however, but every one seems to have a bad second season.

 

Fadiga looks very good, hopefully he will become a good first team player!

True i was slighty worried about Ivan's perfromance.

 

Since Speed has arived Campo has looked half as good, and maybe that headbutt had more to it!

Too soon to judge Fadiga. He had one good run against a bad defence. He also lost the ball too easily in his first touch after he came on, again against a bad defence.

First time he face the defender he had space and I thought he'd be quick, he wasn't. Looked alright but as you say, too soon to judge.

Hierro was spotted in the people carrier heading up the motorway during the match behind the ambulance - presumably carrying Ivan.

Hope Hierro is fit to take over in that position. I think he will bring something different to the team.

For me Saturday's team did okay. Palace made it difficult without doing much. We just plodded along without any finesse. Really missed the guile of Okocha or Djorkaeff.

Hunt was okay in the tackle but still gets out of position and plays some awful passes.

Bruno again looked a little iffy - Johnson could have scored in the 2nd minute.

Stelios - did nothing much for me. Should have done better with his shot late on.

Diouf - not much end product, but you cannot fault his effort.

Fadiga - looked quick, strong and clever. Easy to impress in a 5 minute spell when everyone else is knackered. - take Stelios as an example - always seems to impress as a sub but rarely does it from the start.

i think it was because stelios did a reasonable job in an unfamiliar position.

I must really be missing something here - I thought Stelios had his usual "run round like a headless chicken and contribute not a lot" kind of game that he has whenever he starts (ie. not as a sub). Did Sam really make him MotM??!! If so, I am utterly gobsmacked - Jaidi was by far our best player IMO.... As for Diouf, he looks a lot like Bo Hansen (and last seasons Peders)... lots of effort for sweet FA end product. Fadiga looked okay, but as already mentioned, a few minutes at the end of a match doesn't make a season - promising start though.

Anyone else think Johnson should have got a penalty earlier on? Only seen it in realtime and then once briefly - so hard to make a decision.

Also - was the Diouf incident in first half a penalty? Looks like he may have got the man before the ball, but EHD went down too easily.

Did not think either was a penalty. AJ had lost control of the ball and went down as an after thought, and having watched the reply again, it does look like the palace defender does get a touch on the ball (just)

 

Still dont think Diouf is the right kind of player for the whites. He needs to be told to be a little more positive, when he goes forward he looks dangerous at times, but he spends too much time looking at the ball and ends up going sideways and backwards.

especially the way he discretely slipped the linesman a 50 so he dint flag for the ball crossing the line...

Stelios - missed a simple header, unmarked from 6 yards, smacked Speed around the head in the goal celebrations.

 

Barring his run in which he beat both benches, didn't think he contibuted that much - one of our weaker links.

I thought the foul on Diouf was a stone wall penalty, I was right next to it behind the goal.

The fact that he made the most of it by exaggerating his dive went against him. Maybe he is getting a reputation with the referees as a diver.
