November 6, 20214 yr We don’t have a great record recently, hope the academy guy we got from Bury can help us get further, his record at Bury was decent.

Has to be part and parcel of getting the club to be sustainable. Having a good youth set up got the bills paid at Wigan. Sure they sold players on the cheap but was a lifeline for them
November 6, 20214 yr It's not about having a good youth cup run though It's about getting a player or 2 each year into the big boys On wigan, are their kids generally theirs or others cast off by real clubs at 15 Dunno, genuine question

Much like ourselves, the Manchester and Liverpool clubs tend to have first dibs and then they pick them up at the various stages of being released. Even Nicky Hunt was at Man Utd as a kid before he joined Bolton.
November 6, 20214 yr They had a lad called Joe Gelhardt too, who went to Leeds when they were in administration and is now on the fringes of their first-team
November 6, 20214 yr We've drawn away at Accrington Stanley in the second round, who beat.....Wigan in the 1st round.

November 16, 20214 yr Leading 1-0 at half time. Trailed 2-1, equalised but conceded late on to lose 3-2. Disappointing but Stanley have knocked both us and Wigan out.
