Site Update - Is It The Time Right?

Some of you who have been around WanderersWays over the years have seen many changes to the forum and the website as a whole, some good some bad.

I feel the forum and its software is adequate for what it set out to achieve but the remainder of the site needs a revamp.

Roughly about 2 seasons ago I decided to remove the news, match reports etc for a static front page as it was deemed not necessary to have 'other' pages as most just went direct to the forum, thus not even viewing any other content.

The time has come to move forward once more and I'm looking for editors to produce quality material or to review news, reports that members send in and reformat into something acceptable for the readers (yes one for the grammar police).

The type of material is open to debate with either tongue in cheek news, reports or the clinical straight view or both.

News

Reports

Ground with pubs and transport guide

Best away days

Content from White Love subject to permission from Dick Smiley ?..

Player database from 1874 ? present day

Manager database ??..

and more

Please post your views to this and I?ll listen to your suggestions.

You got Smiley's name right.

IMHO leave it as it is unless you can guarantee it will be regularly (at least once a day) updated.

Otherwise after a while people will just revert to jumping straight to the forums again if there is nowt new to see.

Would be nice to get a WWays perspective guide to away grounds though.

I'm sure for legal reasons, that might not be a good idea.

FWIW, I'm not keen on change!

Very good, Waaaaayyyyyyne!

i'd keep it all in the forum format though,

e.g.

match report section, designated bod writes the match report, then everyone can have their say on Reebok Review after.

Match preview, with WWays unique indepth analysis of away grounds, pubs/getting there/goat farms/location of nearset nando's etc etc

the player database is a good idea, there's plenty about players that never gets mentioned on Wiki soccerbase and their ilk that would make the one on here stand out. Sasa and his soft top BMW outside Ikon picking up the wimmin, george Oghani and his ironing board, Frank worthington and ditching his free Lada outside Ringway on his way to the US

Unless you are going to tuen the site into something like west hams KUMB, I wouldnt bother.

Not been on KUMB for a bit, but I was very impressed when I was last on.

I answer to your question, yes this is a similar infrastructure I'm looking at producing.

This of course will be too much for one man to maintain and I'd be looking for 'long term' subscribers to producing material and the general up-keeping of the main site.

Good man, thanks.

Smiley, Peter North and Mike Hunt - for White Love material?

The biggest problem is, it takes up enough of my day as it is.

I need a better Wanderersways / life balance

I'm willing to help if you need any.

How about doing the player database?

How about doing the player database?

I'm quite happy to do a current players database if you don't mind me cutting and pasting from other sites - in fact all the info is probably contained in the following link -

http://www.4thegame.com/club/bolton-wanderers-fc/

But if you want a database for all players ever to have played for the club then it is far too big a job for me to do.

However one does exist - it was compiled by Mark Heys at the 'Walking Down the Manny Road' site. Mark as since left the site and taken his database with him. I don't know how to contact him but Cass once told me that he knew him.

Maybe you could track him down and get him to post his database?

Even if full credit (and link) is given to the source information?

I / we, need a fresh approach and something that has not been read before. Otherwise folk will just switch off.

I think Mark Heys is on facebook, He might have been the one that was messaging the academy players.

Try that.
