  1. as - admitted from first coming on here, that Bolton's style of play is unfairly critisised in sections of the press. But 'DOOMED', 'BABY BENTLEYS' and 'KICK 'EM OUT' appearing as backpage headers are hardly indicative of a West Ham biased southern based press. The vast majority of articles on the subject of a points deduction have backed Wigan and Sheffield United to the hilt.
  2. MK - Much as you'd like it to happen, it's not going to. As for the southern based media stuff, not sure what papers you read, but last seasons press seemed to consist of 40% 'humerous' pops at our appalling form, 50% backing of Wigan, Sheff Utd in trying to get a points deduction and 10% 'other'. Yossi - think the press are playing catch up - all done apparantly.
  3. Only thing happening is that someone (and it took an outsider and foreigner) has seen the potential in the club, wheras the old board aimed low. Leeds gambled and borrowed massively, don't really see the connection as we're not getting heavily into debt. (Yossi, think the Bent signing has switched again - on his way apparently)
  4. Great idea, but agree that a lot of footballers probably already donate to various charitys, and that there's some people who just want that kind of thing kept private. Sort of same lines as the Special One - that programme last night came across to me as 1) Self serving publicism for the woman 99th) The nurses
  5. Got to be some mileage in Bristol Rovers appearing at 3 national stadiums in one season. (or has that been covered 20 pages back)
  6. guilty as charged. I'm having you for fastest on the buzzer tho'
  7. We sold out each home game last season, despite the team only turning up for the final third of the season. I'll take what actually happens in the next few weeks, and the attendances from next season, rather than a poll by Virgin.
  8. This hasn't set a precedent, not even for this season. Could be wrong, but clubs tapping up a player carries a mandatory punishment of points deduction, wheras with our situation points deduction was a matter for a decision, not mandatory. Chelsea were every bit as guilty of that, as we are with the 2 Argentinian's deal, and the world and his wife know it. They got a ?300,000 fine... They will get nowhere with legal proceedings, as if they fling enough mud, a number of other clubs in the Premiership will get picked up on various issues. And the League know it. As for Man United, check out their record in the last few games of the season in years gone by, when they've already tied up the title. Getting something there on the final day might look a surprise result, but it's not when you look at years gone by.
  9. Cheers for all the good wishes! Hey you got Europe, you can't have it all - good luck on your travels, straight.
  10. I know a load of you on here want to see us go down, and no arguments over the long standing reasons. But all this hoping for a result fix with the Sheffield United v Wigan game? If our playing the two Argentines was an affront to the integrity of the game (etcetc ad nausea, thanks to Dave Whelan), then what would throwing a game to ensure another team was relegated come under? Wish us down for sure, but don't get this attitude of being up in arms over the Tevez stuff, but seemingly fine with the idea of match fixing.
  11. take it you're not being serious? It's not Elland Road. Unless you intend to take the piss, then as per any club (bar a few) you're just down here supporting your team.
  12. Bolty, I wouldn't put money on the bouncing right back bit. Never a dull moment though, Hull, Scunthorpe, Plymouth, be a rollercoaster!
  13. Casino - on the playing front, I wouldn't argue with any of that. Never underated his effectiveness as a player, and see how he's progressed at Chelsea (although his World Cup performances were poor, but Frank doesn't like that getting mentioned, even by journalists). Put it this way, they'll be Bolton players who've left, and you read what they've said when at another club, and you know it's twisted and packed with lies. You know the ins and outs, but unless you're talking to a fellow Bolton fan, it'd be difficult to explain it to anyone else. Lampard (rightly) has it in for West Ham, because of the treatment of his Dad and Uncle. But he should have directed his anger at the people responsible, the Chairman and the Board. Instead of which, he takes it out on the easier target of the supporters, through the press. We don't get the platform he does to answer back, even though we know a lot of it is exagerated and/or lies. I think that's a bit cowardly. If as Frank makes out we're bitter of his Chelsea move, then I'd like to hear his explanation of why Joe Cole gets a round of applause. If it's success, then likewise with Rio Ferdinand. There's a clip doing the rounds, where that Spurs idiot takes a swing at him. Leading up to it, and in the couple seconds after, Lampard cowers and skips away in a semi circle. As soon as he realises the bloke is restrained by stewards and his fellow players, his whole body language changes, raised fists and the big "I am". That clip sums up Frank Lampard to me. (well you did ask!)
  14. Had a move lined up, before his Uncle got the sack. Gave his reason for leaving as the way his family had been treated (Harry, Frank Sr) Critisised West Ham's coaching methods weeks after leaving, and bigging up how great it was at Chelsea in comparison. Conveniently forgetting of course that his was his Dad and Uncle who were directly responsible for those training and coaching methods. (Either a total idiot, or somebody who doesn't stop at belittling their own family, you decide) Completely exagerating the abuse he received when playing for us (Harry used to get grief for not substituting Lampard, no matter how poorly he was playing - it was a small section of the crowd and aimed at the manager mostly, not Lampard) Using the 'abuse' as an excuse to have a pop at the club in dozens of interviews since leaving. The club incidently that first gave him his chance in football. Stating that he'd like to score the goal that sends us down. Stating that the reception he gets at Upton Park hurts, because his Dad's West Ham. (try and reconcile those last two)... Claiming in his biography that we cheered when he broke his leg at Aston Villa, whilst playing for us. A gross lie, but not untypical of a number of his others. 'Going Down' hand signals from an ex-player right in front of you also tend to stoke a reaction. Basically he's a liar.
  15. Bolty - yeah, resigned to it weeks back. Hands up, getting relegated is crap, but not the end of the world. Grounds still open, away games to go to etc. I'd much prefer to be in the Premiership of course, but end of the day I support West Ham, not a league.
  16. Joe Cole got a decent reception, as does Rio Ferdinand. Lampard got the reception he fully deserves. If it was simply about being bitter, they'd have both got the same.
  17. As per other posts, it was after the Beckham world cup sending off, and in response to clubs having a go at him because of it. All the 'republic of Manchester' stuff might have come before? Other clubs have had run ins with other England fans abroad, they don't all sing Argentina...
  18. No, she's moved up west. Ian could confirm, but...
  19. George, no you'll be fine getting on at Plaistow, there's never a problem actually getting on the tube through numbers, just the long queue at Upton Park tube. But East Ham is as good a shout - just a bit more difficult to explain direction wise to someone who doesn't know the area. Plaistow's always a better bet than Upton Park.
  20. If you're not going on your coach thing, then Plaistow station is the one you want on your way back. Walk up Green Street towards Upton Park tube, there'll be a massive queue for that tube, and you can be stuck there for a while - bottom of the queue, the police will be advising you to use Plaistow - follow the crowd walking down that way, it's about 10, 15 minute walk, but you'll save yourself a long queue, and be back at your station quicker. It won't be a "war zone", and as long as you don't take the piss you'll be fine.
  21. Life ban from the ground, and a handbag slap in front of millions. Surely he could've at least connected. They're angels those Spurs fans though...
  22. Jules, allright, maybe a heavy generalisation, but that Trust thing of theirs is something else, and I do think they've got a nerve to stir all that up, given a few of their own supports songs. and though I might be guilty of generalising, I can't think of a time when we've gone running to the media and FA about chants at a game, unlike Spurs, who've done it twice now in the space of 12 months.
  23. Ani, there's certainly no love lost, we despise them, they don't care much for us. Apparently it's ok for them to sing about their ex-defender, as above, and regularly sing about Bangledeshis etc, about Upton Park, but as soon as they get similar, this Trust thing of theirs gets their knickers in a twist, and the media seem to lap it up. Games between us are always 'moody'. Difference is we don't have any happy clappers, who go running to the police, stewards, FA, and media, because of some tewwibbly, naughty, wrroorrty songs.
  24. This was started by the same bunch of Tarquin type Spurs fans, with their own trust type thing and website. They were the same bunch who tried to stir a load of grief over the shoe bomber chants last season. Understand that a few e-mails have headed their way. Among which are a couple that point out that with supporters who regularly sing about a certain Arsenal player's race, along with hopes that he'll catch AIDS, and end up hanging from a tree, that they might want to have a go at putting their own house in order, before slinging the mud our way.
