I've been a fish keeper since the Mittons Pet Shop days in the late 60s.

Lost my "all time favourite fish" today, "Spooky" the Discus showed signs of parasite infection six weeks ago and I've been trying hard to get rid of the bastard worms ever since. I've raised him from a tiddler to the size of a small dinner plate  and when I would walk into the living room in the morning he was always the first to greet me wagging his body like a tail and saying "give me some grub", he always ate his grated beefheart from my finger and he would splash the water when he wanted my attention.

Both me and the missus have been fed up all day and even reminisced over red wine and some soul food of steak and onions tonight... it's been almost like losing a dog.

Does anyone else have similarly dysfunctional hobbies?

Avoid Pets at Home... what sort of size etc of tank are you thinking about?

They breed readily and are easy to look after, just out-compete other species. 

Would need a chomper to keep their numbers down, but that risks other small ones that aren't prolific.

Only a small one. 60L I think. Beginners size! 😊 Think it will be about £200 with all the gear and the fish so I'm umming and ahhing about it. I do love watching them though. I find them really relaxing!

If you can find the space try for 100 litres as in my opinion this is the ideal tank size to get a balance, 60 litres will be okay but 100 litres easier.

I sit in my chair and watch my fish all evening ignoring the telly in the opposite corner of the room.
