7th place - Europe???

If we don't get to FA cup final, looks like we could qualify for Europe if we stay as we are (7th) :D/ =D>

With Chelsea/Liverpool in Carling cup final and if the FA cup was contested by one of the top 5, the extra spot would go to 7th. Looked on FA website - rules for last years european qualification;

"As was the case last season, there are four Champions League spots available to the Premier League," FA spokesman Andrin Cooper confirmed to us.

"The top two finishers will qualify for the competition automatically, while the third and fourth placed teams will enter initially into the qualification rounds, as Manchester United and Newcastle United did this season.

"We have three UEFA Cup slots, with one place going to the fifth placed team in the Premiership and two places allocated to the winners of the Worthington Cup and the FA Cup. One thing to be aware of is that if the winners of The FA Cup have already qualified for Europe, their UEFA Cup slot will the revert to the losing finalists.

"In the case of the Worthington Cup, only the winners are eligible for the UEFA Cup spot. Should the winners go on to qualify for the UEFA Cup or Champions League via the Premiership or European competitions this year, then the slot would again go to the Premier League.

"The other eventuality would be if both the finalists for the FA Cup Final have already qualified for European competition. In this case, the UEFA Cup slot would also revert to the sixth spot in the league or, if the Worthington Cup winners have also already qualified for Europe, it could go down to seventh in the Premier League."

Don't you think Liverpool can be caught?

furtest part of russia will do. somewhere the ale is 5 pence a pint

Don't you think Liverpool can be caught?

Possibly, but I fully believe that they have had their shitty patch this season and with Morientes leading the line, they finally have a forward to score them the goals. What with Gerrard on fire at the minute, I think Liverpool will be looking at catching Everton rather than worrying about the likes of us. We still have to go to Anfield - which would be pivotal in us catching them.

I think 5th or 6th are up for grabs. The games against Boro and Everton at home are huge for us now in our quest for Europe.

Whilst it would be great to qualify - has anyone taken a blind bit of notice about this years competition? Its a bit of a non-event compared to the Champions League.

thats coz the english teams keep being drawn against AFC Leprosy and other shite teams! now the big teams from the champions league are in the attention will go up! all we'd need to do is last past christmas then the money will roll in!

Don't forget that if Boro win the UEFA cup they will automticlly be in it to defend it so I believe.

Liverpool v Chelsea CC Cup final = extra UEFA league position

Similar FA Cup final = similar, 7th could be a UEFA spot, 8th with the Boro scenario ????

They'll need that spot for themselves!

they are not good enough to win it

we need 6th

I remember people saying this last year about Newcastle. From what I understand, if Middlesbrough win the UEFA, they will be allowed to defend it no matter where they finish in the league. However, if they win it and finish in a UEFA qualifying place in the Prem (5th or possible even 6th or 7th depending on other scenarios) then we just lose the extra place.

Fortunately, Middlesbrough are not good enough to win the competition, so we won't have to worry about it.

The one good thing though is that they are still in the competition with their already depleted squad. They could end up falling further down the league with c couple more injuries and fatigued players :D
