Tesco can fuck off

Featured Replies

So I'm in there last night after the game, BLT sandwich and a 4-pack to sup when I get back to the East Midlands. Cashier looks anguished, manager type comes over and says you can't buy alcohol we have reason to believe you've been to the football. Now I'm thinking how the fcuk they worked that out apart from me Bolton shirt and me 28 year old scarf (only washed when we get promotion), but I let that pass and pointed out that since I had a 110 mile drive ahead of me its was unlikely i'd sup them there and then and smash the place up. But no, they wouldnt have it; never mind that everyone else who didnt "look like they'd been to the football" was buying booze; never mind that its was 10 pm on a rainy tuesday night against Southampton and so had a trouble potential of nought out of ten.

Ignorant bastards

That happened to me and a mate. We hadn't got a scarf or shirt on. He got to the checkout and the girl said - have you been to the match? My mate says yes and she says she can't serve him.

After arguing the toss with the manager for a while, I said, I haven't been to the match, my mate gave me the money and I paid.

I'm going to write them a stiff letter.

I got refused once in Tesco

It was after last years sportsmans dinner

It was 7am when we left the De Vere though

And I was gurning

Happened to me after a match. I went into Tesco to buy my step-dad a bottle of Glenfiddich for his birthday present. Point blank refused me cos I looked like I had been to the match (wearing an England shirt). Another guy in queue with his wife had a City shirt on and was purchasing beer without any question.

I haven't been back since. ragging stupid policy!

(you can quote me on this cos it happened).

what you wanna do is use one of those self service aisles they have tescos!

yeah, i went in to buy a box of tissues and i got refused because they said i was going to watch channel 55.

Well of course it may be that Tesco want to disassociate themselves from excessive football related boozing. Fair enough I suppose - except come summer 2006 and the World Cup do you think they will:

a) adhere to this policy and refuse to serve booze to anyone planning to get bevved while watching.

or

B) fill the aisles with England flags and stacks of half price crates of Carling

:-k hmmm, let me think :-k

bet you the store manager of that Tesco is a Wigan fan

its to do with a new law that has been introduced... basically if you have been to football there is a possibility you could already be under the influence.. if your caught drunk.. drinking beer.. you can get fined 80 quid as can the cashier for selling it to you when your under the influence.. so tesco will have said to their staff.. to cover their backs.. dont sell any alcohol to people who have been to the match...

its a new law set by the police to con people out of 160 quid just for being drunk ( 80 from drunkard 80 from who served them ). and its the same reason this is my last week working in a pub.

I think it's more to do with the fact you can't drink in public around the Reebok and a single male buying booze after a game may be inclined to drink some on the street. He, if caught, would be prosecuted as would the vendor, in this case Mr. T. Esco.

well similar thing really.. apart from they go for the person selling the actual alcohol.. not the company they work for..

police are just after making easy money.

aye, but I pointed out to them that I had a 110 mile drive ahead of me. there's no way I'd sup me 4 cans of Kestrel Super on the way to the car. I'd never remember me immobiliser code for a start

I wonder if they would serve you with a 10" bread knife and a hammer?

Ah Traf but you could have bought them from Asda, thats unless you bought Tesco's own brand of lager kestrel super strength or Asda's own brand of kestrel super strength! :D

Now that, Smiff's old son, is a very good point.

I'll think I'll test 'em out; after the game, well bladdered, Bolton shirt on, I'll go to the check out with weedkiller, stanley knife, 30 packets of morning glory seeds, box of fireworks and 4 pack of Tesco budget brand 3% by volume lager.
