THE BUS WRECKAGE

Featured Replies

Can anyone believe that only 2 people died on this vehicle?

If it was a suicide bomber then he was a thick red ginger as he clearly sat upstairs. Unless of course it was heaving in which case the people stood directly next to him would have absorbed a lot of the blast, but that can't have happened because it decimated the bus. Methinks it wasn't a suicide bomber on the bus which in turn means it didn't go off early and wasn't meant for the underground as has been raised as a possibility. But I still can't work out the bomb being on the upstaris of the bus.

have they said how many were on the bus yet?

you cant imagine many from upstairs surviving when you see the state of that

was an open top tourist bus i thought?

Don't think so, doesn't look like one to me...and people have said they saw the roof tear off...

It was apparently a packed bus too, can't believe only 2 died.

Know exactly where that one went off, about 300 metres from Euston, there's a wine bar on the corner that I've had more than one drink in.

Double deckers, and especially the London Routemaster DD, are made of piss and wind. How many times have you seen a DD after it has hit a low bridge? roof straight off, no messing. The blast on the one today would have gone straight up. And with it being upstairs makes me think it went off by accident. Only 2 dead, and one of them the bomber, think it should have been much worst, but thank god it wasn???t.

Lets hear it fot the thick camel jockey =D> =D>

I think that the image of a red London bus, torn to pieces, on the front page of every major newspaper in the world was exactly what they wanted.

Think they would have preferred one outside Buck House or Downing St.

Point taken though.

BOMBER' SPOTTED ON BUS

Survivors of the bomb blast on London's Tavistock Square have told how they saw a "suicide bomber" on board.

The packed Number 30 bus was ripped apart by the explosion at 9.47am yesterday.

Richard Jones, who was travelling on the bus, said he is convinced he saw a bomber setting a device.

The 61-year-old told The Sun: "I noticed him as he looked nervous. He was continually diving into his bag, rummaging round and looking in it."

Seconds after Mr Jones stepped off the bus, it exploded with the "bomber" still on board.

Terence Mutasa, 27, a staff nurse at University College hospital, told The Sun: "I treated two girls in their 20s who were involved in the bus bomb.

"They were saying some guy came and sat down and that he exploded."

He added: "They said the guy just sat down and the explosion happened. They thought it was a suicide bomber."

Joely Ward, 36, was walking alongside the bus when it exploded. She told the Daily Mirror: "There was a huge bang and a pile of glass flew over my head. As I looked down there was a mound of flesh at my feet.

"I did not even register what it was, and then I saw a hand sticking out of it. It was a torso at my feet. It was blown apart."

A student who was near the explosion and helped medics at the scene said she saw "seven people obviously dead".

Stephanie Riak Akuei told The Sun: "There was a lot of body parts and human debris. There were people trapped on the bus."

"At first there was an eerie quiet and a very profuse smell of blood."

She added: "I think there were at least 20 people on the bus. At least five were beyond recognition and we covered them up with blankets."

Guy on radio this morning reckons it was definite suicide bombers. He thinks they were triggered off too timely - ie. the Edgeware Rd train was passing another train as the bomb detonated - trying to create more casualties. The stories from the bus bomb sound like an agitated guy on there. Another thing about that one is that the bus got re-routed - it should have passed Kings Cross station at the precise moment that everyone would have been rushing onto the street after the bomb there. Maybe the guy got frustrated at this and booom.

the italian ambasador yesterday said that the toll was 40 at 12oclock..

the goverment will want it to see less than what it is.. i'm horrified.. and after reading smileys above post.. it brings into perspective how much worse things could have gone..

its a sick world.

just found quoted from one eye witness the guy seen dipping into the bag was around 25 with olive coloured skin.

If you where stood/sat next to the bomb then you'd have been blown into 1000 bits. Making it very hard to identify the people. I have seen pictures though in the mirror newspaper take thirty seconds after it exploded of people standing up at the front on the top deck of the bus. So maybe there won't be as many fatalities as we all think!

I would fully expect that figure to be revised upwards.

At least 50 they're saying will be final toll. I think I've decided the bus bomb was meant for elsewhere, another tube probably. If you were planning to blow up a double decker bus you wouldn't sit upstairs. I think it went off prematurely and the bomber himself, who hadn't planned to, became a suicide bomber.

The bus was re-routed so you are right the bomb was meant for somewhere else, to cause even more carnage and suffering

And the upshot of this? The company who made the detonator or the explosives will be prosecuted for not printing instructions in Arabic!

Just revised the death toll for the bus to 13.
