Horwich Posted July 28, 2005 Author Posted July 28, 2005 Thursday GOODWOOD 2.15 Race Overview Top rated Natalie Jane should relish today's trip & ground & can give Gerald Butler another winner here at Goodwood. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Natalie Jane Improving with every start & did best work at finish up in grade over 12f in the Group 2 Lancashire Oaks 26 days ago. Shapes as though today's extra 2 furlongs will suit & stands out on form. Hails from a yard that does well here at Goodwood & is proven on soft ground. 2. Asawer Lightly raced 3yo who was probably unsuited by a slow gallop when finishing 2nd behind Polar Jem at Newmarket recently. Remains open to more improvement & should appreciate the step up to 14f. Yet to race on soft ground, but will be a danger to all if handling it. 3. Rave Reviews Ran below par on firm ground when finishing only 5th at Haydock last time out. However, will find today's easy ground more suitable & could benefit for the step up in distance. Astrocharm landed this contest 12 months ago & hails from a yard in good form. However, the 6yo seems to prefer a sound surface. Bowstring likes easy ground & should run a big race with J Fortune in the saddle. 2.50 Race Overview Competitive renewal for one of the quickest 5 furlong contests seen all summer in Britain. A strong pace looks assured with a number of likely pacesetters in the field. It should prove best to be drawn low. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Moss Vale Could never get competitive up in Group 1 company when finishing unplaced at Newmarket last time out. However, will find this company more suitable & enjoys easy ground. Should have the race run to suit & the booking of K Fallon takes the eye. 2. Bahamian Pirate Shaped with promise when running well in the Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket earlier this month. D Nicholl's charge stands out on Group 1 win from last term & can go close with soft ground a positive. 3. Indian Maiden Progressive 5yo who has been a credit to connections this term. Will not mind the ground & again can get involved with the race likely to be run to suit. The Tatling rarely runs a bad race & with luck in running should not be faraway at the finish. Speedy Blue Dakota showed potential as a juvenile but has to defy a 363 day absence. Castelletto, Obe Gold & Meccas Mate can prove best of the rest. 3.25 Race Overview Distinction stands out on close 2nd in last month's Ascot Gold Cup but is not certain to enjoy today's ground. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Distinction Top class stayer who ran a fine race in the Ascot Gold Cup at York when just finding Westerner too good last month. Stands out on that effort & will not mind the return to 2 miles. Has hardly ever raced on soft ground but should prove hard to beat here. 2. Shabernak Has returned with a venegance from a long absence this term & showed great resolution to make all in a listed contest last time out. Handles easy ground & with more improvement likely can push the selection all the way. 3. Millenary Former St Leger winner who has won numerous Group races over the last few years on easy ground. Would be a danger to all at best with the J Dunlop yard in form but has been disappointing this term. Dancing Bay has run with credit in Group races & another big run is on the cards today. Winged DArgent will appreciate the return to easy ground & is respected with headgear fitted. Lost Soldier Three is open to more improvement in Group company & can prove best of the rest. 4.00 Race Overview Trappy 3yo handicap with little to choose between a number of today's field. With more rain forecast across England this week conditions are likely to remain soft. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Prime Number Appreciated switch to front running tactics when landing the spoils in a maiden here 41 days ago. Should improve for today's extra furlong on handicap bow & has form on easy ground. 2. Comic Strip V progressive juvenile last term who ended campaign with a listed success on easy ground. Should enjoy today's step up in trip & will prove hard to beat under top weight for a shrewd yard. 3. Enforcer Hard to fancy on evidence of last 2 starts. However, remains unexposed over 10 furlongs & has proven form on a sharp/undulating track. Babe Maccool & Alamiyan both come here in good form but are unproven on soft ground. Dansili Dancer can prove best of the rest. 4.35 Race Overview Another hard 3yo handicap for punters to solve with only 3lbs on Superform ratings between half of today's 18 strong field. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. King Marju Ran with credit back at 6f in a valuable handicap at Newmarket earlier this month. Should enjoy the return to 7f & is proven on soft ground. Open to more improvement in handicaps & the booking of K Fallon is a good sign. 2. Tax Free Won in impressive style on handicap bow at Newmarket recently on drop back to 6f. Should enjoy the return to 7f & can rate higher for a yard that does well here at Goodwood. 3. Coup DEtat Probable winner in a similar contest at Newmarket earlier this month but for rider easing up before the finish. Will enjoy the likely easy ground & can again reach the frame. In a difficult contest for punters to solve Sea Hunter, Viking Spirit, Ocean Gift & Kenmore can prove best of the rest. 5.10 Race Overview Deveron tops the Superform ratings & will prove hard to beat if handling today's soft ground. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Deveron Just found one too good on debut in a competitive fillies maiden 13 days ago. Sure to improve for that effort & sets a good standard for the rest. 2. In Dubai Did best work at finish over 6f on debut at Leicester 47 days ago. Should appreciate today's extra furlong & can give the selection most to think about. 3. Innocent Air Shaped with promise on debut 12 days ago in a Lingfield maiden. Should come on for that effort & is expected to run a big race. Fear To Tread, You Call That Art & Persian Express make most appeal of the newcomers & can prove best of the rest. 5.45 Race Overview Trappy finale where all stakes should be kept to a minimum. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Material Witness Has been a little disappointing of late in competitive handicaps. However, loves Goodwood & easy ground. Could get own way upfront & represents the in form W R Muir stable. 2. Joseph Henry Will relish the step up to 7f & makes plenty of appeal on earlier 4th at Epsom 23 days ago. Acts on easy ground & can chase the selection home. 3. Prince Tum Tum Hard to fancy on recent form but should appreciate today's return to 7f & can run a big race. St Petersberg will enjoy underfoot conditions & can prove best of the rest. Quote

Horwich Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 2.15 Race Overview A tricky Listed heat with sufficient pace. Mamool is interesting in this grade but preference is just for Orange Touch. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Orange Touch Unplaced in similar on reapp on unfavoured firm ground at Newbury 76 days ago. Listed winner here in '04 on favoured easy ground and should appreciate today's surface. Runs well fresh and fancied to return to winning form. 2. Mamool Yard not exactly firing on all cylinders of late but this represents a drop in grade for reapp and has run well fresh before. Gr 3 scorer last term before finishing unplaced in the Melbourne Cup and Arc (both Gr 1's). Effective under conditions and capable of defying top weight if fully wound up. 3. The Whistling Teal Veteran who commands respect in this grade having won similar last term. May just need this reapp and holds place claims. Dubai Success looks the pick of the remainder and holds place claims. Jagger represents a trainer who usually does well at this meeting. Wunderwood was unplaced in similar last time.(DC) 2.50 Race Overview A fair Gr 3 for fillies and mares. Top rated Lucky Spin can defy top weight. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Lucky Spin Won similar at York over 6f 3 weeks ago and the runner up from there has since won the valuable Skybet Dash h'cap. Has won over 7f and on gd/soft. Looks the most likely winner. 2. Shohrah Makes reapp today and runs well fresh. Won maiden on debut last term at Ascot and improved on that when finished approx 4L 5th in the Gr 1 Fillies Mile. Only raced on gd/firm which is the main concern. However, open to further improvement and market could provide clues. 3. Tesary On the upgrade. Won a Salisbury h'cap 20 days ago and deserves this step up in grade. Has won heavy and yard are in good form. Place prospects. Majestic Desert should appreciate this ease in class and is another to consider. Quickfire takes another drop in trip. Roodeye is up in grade but her stable are in good form.(DC) 3.25 Race Overview A strong renewal with plenty of chances and win and place form on offer. A high draw could prove advantageous should the runners stick to the inside of the course on this drying ground. Cesare looks likely to run a big race. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Cesare Progressive 4yo who represents in-form yard. Landed hat-trick 16 days ago when won a Lingfield classified stakes in encouraging style and carries a 3lb penalty today. Has won on soft and could be more to come. Good claims. 2. Unshakable Drawn high. Back on a winning mark and returned to form at Newmarket 24 days ago when finished 2.5L runner up (v closely matched with Kamanda Laugh). No luck in running when unplaced in this last term from a higher rating and should enjoy today's ground. Likes a big field/strong pace and interesting. 3. Elliots World Trainer does well here and is in good form. Improving and should appreciate this return to 1m and has a high draw. Good place claims. Top rated Kamanda Laugh is 3lb higher than an earlier winning mark and is another to consider. Neros Return, Helm Bank, Crosspeace, Pedrillo and last year's runner up Impeller also appeal. 4.00 Race Overview A small field and there looks to be sufficient pace in the line up. Top rated Amigoni is the selection. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Amigoni Represents powerful connections. Won a Curragh Gr 3 12 days ago and must defy top weight today. Won maiden earlier on good and likely there is more improvement to come. 2. Mullaad Goes for hat-trick. Won a Chester conditions stakes 3 weeks ago and deserves this step up in grade. Should stay 6f and could be more to come. 3. Always Hopeful Trainer doing well with his juveniles and had a big priced runner up earlier in the week. Fine 5th last time in the Super Sprint and fancied to run well. Upper Hand rates as the best of the remainder and should not be too far aw 4.35 Race Overview A typically difficult nursery to solve with little on form between most of the 12 strong field. This race is even more harder to solve as few of today's runners have raced on soft ground. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Ocean Pride Improved for step up to 7f with a good 2nd behind Close To You at Lingfield 20 days ago. Open to more improvement on handicap bow & is a proven soft ground performer. 2. Zennerman Relished the step up to 7f with a game success in a novice event at Warwick recently. Hails from a stable in form & will not be faraway at the finish if handling today's soft ground. 3. Zafantage Finally got off the mark at Brighton last time out when enjoying today's 7f trip. That win should have given the juvenile confidence & a decent run is predicted on handicap bow. In a race where stakes should be kept to a minimum, Mujood, Charlie Tokyo, Glenmuir & Norman Beckett are other runners to consider. PB 5.10 Race Overview Tartatartufata has been showing fine form on easy ground this term & looks the answer to another tricky Goodwood handicap. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Tartatartufata Probably found the ground too fast when finishing unplaced at Chester earlier this month. However, was progressive earlier on easy ground & looks well drawn near the stands rail in stall 3. 2. Peopleton Brook In-form colt who returned to winning ways with a narrow success at Haydock last time out. Milton Bradley's charge should again run a big race, but is unproven on soft ground. 3. Folga Ultra consistent 3yo who has finished 2nd on his last 4 starts. Again should run his race with Jamie Spencer booked to ride & reach the frame. Westbrook Blue has shown best form on easy ground & is capable of running well. Auwitesweetheart, Oranmore Castle & Trim Image can prove best of the rest. 5.45 Race Overview D Nicholls likes to win sprints here at Goodwood & runs no less than 5 runners here. Sierra Vista won here in good style here 2 days ago & will prove hard to beat today under a 5lb penalty. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Sierra Vista Returned to form with a venegance here just 2 days ago when easily landing a similar event over 5 furlongs. Will not mind the return to 6f & again has ground conditions to suit. Does not look badly treated under a 5lb penalty & can win again from stall 7. 2. Idle Power Goodwood specialist who lost little in defeat over 7f at Folkestone just 10 days ago. Should not dropping back a furlong on easy ground & should not be faraway at the finish. 3. Sir Edwin Landseer Did best work at the finish when staying on for 5th place behind Sierra Vista here 2 days ago. Crying out for the step up to 6f & remains well treated on best form. Jayanjay loves sharp/undulating tracks & will not be faraway with luck in running. Wanchai Lad, Seven No Trumps & Russian Symphony also merit consideration Quote
Sweep Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 After yesterdays 2x 1sts (inc 8/1 winner) and 1 x 2nd, here are todays selections Goodwood 3.25 BABODANA Thisk 5.20 CALABAZA Newmarket 7.35 GREENSLADES Nottingham 8.20 INCHLOSS I got tipped Cesare for the 3.25, although it does look pretty miserable odds. I will only be having ??10 on it though - I might have a couple of quid each way on your selection though (each way of course, as it's about 16's at the moment) Quote
Sweep Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Mine came 3rd, got boxed in a bit I though. Babodana was very unlucky not to get 4th place Quote
Horwich Posted July 29, 2005 Author Posted July 29, 2005 GOODWOOD SATURDAY 2..00 Race Overview A very competitive 3yo h'cap with many chances and a high draw is an advantage. Brads House is taken to land a double. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Brads House Progressive and has a good high draw. Won a 66-85 here 43 days ago on good under today's jockey and is up 5lbs today. Races close to the pace and should be able to gain a good position. Should run well. 2. Pagan Sword Won earlier off a 5lb lower mark and arrives in good form. Approx 1.5L 3rd 54 days ago at Pontefract off today's mark and yard are in fair form. Good place claims. 3. Ebitkaar Won maiden at Haydock earlier and unplaced 43 days ago in a York Gr 3. This drop in trip/grade will help and yard are going well. Fancied to return to form. Dahman is an interesting runner from a high draw and is another to consider. Self Respect tries a visor. -------------------------------------------------------- 2.30 Race Overview A decent Listed heat for three year olds with sufficient pace. Brecon Beacon is the selection. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Brecon Beacon Excellent effort in blinkers (not worn today) 44 days ago when finished 3L runner up behind a v progressive rival at York. Yard in good form and is effective under conditions. Good claims. 2. Wise Dennis Last run can be forgiven when slipped in the Jersey and prior to that won a Listed handicap. Interesting jockey booking and fancied to go well under joint top weight. 3. Borthwick Girl Tried to make all and posted a career best when a neck runner up in a fillies Listed h'cap 45 days ago. Jockey in good form here this week and holds good place claims. Cupids Glory makes his reapp in first time blinkers and his yard are in good form. Mister Genepi and Council Member also appeal. ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.10 Race Overview Some high class fillies and mares line up for this Gr 1 and there looks to be sufficient pace in the field. Alexander Goldrun looks the safest option. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Alexander Goldrun Fine effort 25 days ago when 2.5L behind Soviet Song in the Gr 1 Falmouth and is closely matched with Karens Caper/holds Penkenna Princess on that form. Earlier won an Irish 10f Gr 1 and should relish this return to that trip today. Very good claims. 2. Something Exciting Reportedly did not enjoy the kickback (track sanded) when approx 2L 4th in a York Gr 2 44 days ago. Earlier a half length runner up in the Oaks and landed a Listed race here. Fancied to fare better today. 3. Red Bloom Improving and represents in-form yard. 1.5L runner up behind the selection last time and reopposes today on the same terms. Good place claims. Karens Caper is another to consider and she tries 10f for the first time today. Virginia Waters started the season in excellent form but has been below that level recently. She may prefer faster ground ------------------------------------------------------------------ 3.45 Race Overview One of the biggest betting heats seen all year in Britain with 28 runners charging up the Goodwood straight. D Nicholls has a fine record at Goodwood & saddles the first 2 in the betting today. Recent evidence on the draw would suggest that you are best to be drawn near either rail. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Gift Horse Has been transformed this term since joining the D Nicholls stable. Landed a huge gamble at Epsom last time out & has been kept fresh for today since. Will not mind the easy ground & Goodwood should suit the 5yo's attacking style. Open to more improvement in handicap grade & has the assistance of K Fallon in the saddle. 2. Fonthill Road Progressive easy ground sprinter who probably found drop to 5f against him at Musselburgh last month. Will relish the return to 6f & is closely matched on form with the selection. Should get a good lead from the pace drawn high & has a leading chance. 3. Lafi Last years Wokingham winner become Anti Post market leader after narrowly losing in a Group 3 sprint over 5f at Sandown last month. Will enjoy the return to 6f & appears well in off a mark of 98. Looks well drawn in stall 23 & is another big contender for the D Nicholls yard. Fantasy Beliver finished a close 2nd in this contest 12 months ago & has to be a big danger to all racing off the same mark today. Meccas Mate looks well treated on return to handicaps & will not be faraway with luck in running. Mutawaafer is closely matched with the selection on earlier form at York & will not mind today's easy ground. Texas Gold, High Reach, Partners In Jazz & Colonel Cotton can prove best of the rest. -------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.20 Race Overview With only 5 of today's 13 strong field having seen a racecourse before all bets should be kept to a minimum. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Gracechurch Only just denied on debut at Sandown when meeting trouble in running 10 days ago. Sure to come on for that effort & represents a yard in form. 2. Peppertree Lane Finished a creditable 3rd beaten less than a length on debut at ayr 21 days ago. Will improve for that effort & hails from a yard that does well here at Goodwood. 3. Hitchcock Has done little wrong in both maiden starts this term. Today's sharp track should suit this pacey juvenile & a big run is expected. Hitchcock was not beaten far on debut in Ireland 13 days ago & has to be respected for a stable that always has to be respected. True Cause & Dynamic Rhythm can prove best of the newcomers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 4.55 Race Overview Sounds Simla comes here in winning form & looks the most likely winner in a trappy nursery. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Sounds Simla Appreciated return to 6f with easy success in a similar event at Leicester 16 days ago. Open to more improvement in handicap grade & the talented N De Souza takes 3lbs off the juveniles back. 2. Godfrey Street Produced career best effort when staying for 6th in the Group 3 Molcombe Stakes over 5f here 4 days ago. Stands out on that effort & should enjoy the step up to 6f. 3. Bee Seventeen Enjoyed step up to 7f with a decent 2nd place in a Epsom fillies maiden 38 days ago. Should not be hindered by the return to 6f for handicap bow & has the assistance of J P Murtagh in the saddle. In a difficult contest, Dont Tell Sue, Tiber Tilly & Grantley Adams can prove best of the rest. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5.30 Race Overview Arry Dash & Fabrian come here in fine form & are expected to fight out the finish. Three Against The Field (In preferred order) 1. Arry Dash Enjoyed switch to soft ground when landing a amateur event at Sandown just 3 days ago. REmains well treated on best form & will again have ground conditions to suit. 2. Fabrian Ultra consistent handicapper who will not mind today's easy ground. Today's drop back in trip should suit & a big run is expected. 3. Lucayan Dancer Consistent 5yo who will not mind the easy ground. Hails from a yard in good form & has the talented Victoria Behan on board. Voice Mail has claims on form but may be more suited to fast ground. Meelup & Arabie are other runners to make some appeal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Quote
