The clue was late 70s. We'd gone decimal by then and 50p coins had been in circulation for quite a while.

Sorry, it was my dumb attempt at satire, Biff.

Ah! And our good queens silver jubilee, remember standing outside Leigh casino (20th June 1977) with mi little union jack flag 8-[

it's weird how I can remember things from nearly 30 years ago can remember bugger all from last week. ](*,)'

all I was getting at was that it would have been refered to as "ten bob" irrespective of note, coin or whatever. Thus in "life on Mars" at the end of one of the episodes the old style cop asked the hero to bung a 50p piece into a machine. Back in 1972 or whenever it was there's no way he'd have said that. So I'm thinking "that's bollocks" although it may be that ultimately some mistakes like that prove significant....

Another slant on the 70s, was as an apprentice engineer working in Atherton, and at dinnertime, taking the orders off about twenty odd men, then walking down Bag Lane to the chippy, with a big F*CK OFF cardbored box, and watching everybody sprinting pass me. :D

No Sue, but with so many orders, the chips and puddings at the bottom of the box would be squashed to buggery, and bigger portions at "THE CABIN" you must be joking, tighter than cramp that chippy in 1970. :D

Great times - esp as a BWFC fan. Mid 60's to mid 70's the perfect decade. Too much nanny state nonsense these days. Can't think for yerself or move without big brother watching you.

Ah the 70's when we had proper hot summers, pitch invasions and bottles of bulls eye on the embankment :D
