The pair, aged 21 and 24, from Bolton have been released on bail pending a decision whether to prosecute them. A spokeswoman for the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) in Germany confirmed the fans had been arrested in the Waldstadion in Frankfurt. But she said no personal details would be released about the pair. The men were arrested as England beat Paraguay 1-0. They are accused of daubing the symbols on their bare torsos. Displaying Nazi signs is an offence under German law. The men were released after paying a surety and allowed to remain in the country but could be prosecuted later.

The Crown Prosecution Service is applying for football banning orders against Kristopher Phillip Dunn, 23 and Gordon Thomas, 21 from Bolton. They were deported to Britain after being arrested by German police during the England v Paraguay match. The men were arrested by UK police on landing at Leeds Bradford Airport A Crown Prosecution Service spokesman said: "Both men had daubed Nazi symbols on their bodies. "Wearing such banned insignia is not only a criminal offence in Germany, but is considered to cause deep offence to German people." The men were arrested at the Waldstadion in Frankfurt during the England match.
