Wanderers - Rogue Gallery (part Iv)

(Continued from Part III)

Emanuele Morini

morini_emanuele.jpg

Italian youngster who impressed in a trial when under an alias. Morini was a slightly built forward who had quick footwork but he was only ever able to manage one full league appearance against Sheffield United on the final day of the 2000-2001 season.

Nigel Jemson

jemson_270.jpg

Journeyman striker who had a short spell on loan with the Wanderers in 1988 after injuries to the regular frontline of John Thomas and Trevor Morgan. Once under the wing of Brian Clough, Jemson proved to be a good target man for a number of clubs but was unable to make an impression at Burnden Park.

Sammy Lee

lee.jpg

Energetic midfielder who was brought to Bolton at the tail end of his career in 1990 by former Liverpool teammate and then Wanderers manager Phil Neal. Lee spent a lot of time injured during his spell at Burnden Park and managed just four games.

John Salako

johnsalako.jpg

Injury prone winger who was brought to the Reebok Stadium in 1998 in a bid to lend his experience to the Wanderers relegation fight. Salako never started a game for the club and his efforts during cameo appearances came in vain as the club make a swift return back to the First Division.

Franz Carr

Franz_Carr.jpg

Much travelled winger who was once rated as the most promising player in England in his early Nottingham Forrest days under the late great Brian Clough. Carr made five brief substitute appearances for the trotters at a time when they had been struggling at the foot of the Premiership.

Remember the fanfare when we signed this lad from Roma? =D> =D> =D>

It was as though we'd signed a young Francesco Totti!

I can't remember any other new player getting an introduction like it.

Turned out he was garbage, though - he went back to Italy, played a handful of games in Serie B for Vicenza, got sent to some Greek backwater for a season, and now can't get a game in Serie C2.

Something went awry somewhere, didn't it?

At lease Gaetano Giallanza is knocking them in for Darlington!

Giallanza was the boy who missed that header, second half against Chelsea in the match we lost 2-0. Easier to score! I remember being in a pub in bolton watching that and thinking that supa would have risen and buried it, but Todd had let him go!

One of my worst 3 games watching bolton.

BTW have you seen his playing record?

part timer or what? and this would include any foreign teams!

His playing record shown by 'Big Girl' is not complete. After leaving Norwich he went on to play in Switzerland for firstly BSC Young Boys and then FC Aarau before his return to England at Darlington

The following link shows the clubs he has actually been with -

You've still made a very valid point though BG - Giallanza is now 32 years old and really has only been playing regular football for the last 3 years - so I agree with you, he does not seem to have played many games at all for someone who has had a 14 year professional footballing career!

Hold up! I wasn't suggesting Giallanza was the best player we ever had, it was just a throw-away comment!

However, I was at Stamford Bridge that afternoon. I was also at the Reebok when he had a goal disallowed for no apparent reason at the end of the 3-2 home defeat by Leeds.

THAT would have kept us up, too!

Piss poor player, but didn't half make me laugh first time I saw him against Fulham.

While he was warming up he was following the linesman up and down the pitch pretending to nick his flag. Having a right old crack with the Bolton fans down in the corner.

Not as funny as when he eventually made it on to the pitch later on in the game. At least 4 stone overweight and sweating like a pig before he even touched the ball. And he looked as if he was deliberately running in the style of a girl.

Shame 'cos he was cracking in a previous life. Amazing what can happen to a player and I suppose an example to hold up when anyone says "form is temporary, class is permanant".

While I'm at it.

I'll give 10 points to the first person who can name this former Wanderer.....

Chic Charnley was a proper lunatic.

This amused me from Wikipedia:

"Chic had a voracious appetite for trouble. During a training session in Glasgow's Ruchill Park, he was attacked by two locals brandishing samurai swords. Never one to shirk away, Charnley proceeded to fight off the assailants single-handedly, earning the nickname 'Zorro'."
