It means they're a big club with friends in high places and if they don't get what they want they'll kick up a fuss. I agree with the decision though, if Mascherano wants to play football and he's not doing that for West Ham then regulations like this shouldn't get in the way of him doing what he's devoted his past few years training to do.

They must take into account how few minutes he played for Wet Spam and when he last played.

I agree, although it does seem a little unfair that a South American player gets this with very little legal wrangling, whereas many African players struggle to get work permits for over here.

Let the extra out of Planet of the Apes play if he wants, I say, there's far too many happy to warm benches for a king's ransom.

I still don't fully understand how we got Teymourian. Who exactly assesses if the player is "exceptionally talented" enough to be allowed a permit.

is it like when Liverpool got special dispensation to play in the Champion's League when finishing 5th?

Could we sign Tevez if we/he wanted?

am sure Pablo has some constructive comments/opinions on this matter

Nothing suprises me in the world that is Liverpool Football Club.

Iv'e past caring too much, as its never going to change.

The Anfield Carpet gets bigger every year, almost un-noticed.....but more and more people are starting to see what the Mighty LFC are, and what they are about.

I don't understand all this about not playing for 3 clubs in one year..................Under Fifa's rules, a footballer cannot play competitively for more than two different clubs between 1 July and 30 June the following year

Stead has certainly played for at least 3 clubs this season alone (Sunderland, Derby & Sheff Utd) - and I am sure there are other players who have played for at least 3 teams so far this season (the only other one that springs to mind is Kiraly, who has played for Palace, Villa & West Ham)

the exceptionally talented only really comes in if the players international team is outside the top 75 in the world

iran are ranked top 75 so if he's played 75% of recent games, he gets in

tis all quite clear methinks

when exceptionally talented does come into it, past legends of the game assess the player

legends like john aldridge

It's like the rule regarding managers' coaching qualifications, that's waived all the time. So WTFP?

Thanks for clearing that up. I knew that rule, but i just didn't think he'd played the 75% but after checking that up i suppose with 17 caps he probably has.

i think he played a game on the eve of the last deadline that got him in

I'm just thinking, do friendlies count for that? i.e. Somebody wants to sign some young talent but he's 1 or 2 caps short and the deadlines in a day. A friendly chat with the Iran manager and ta-da, he's just made his required caps in time.

so maybe we should sack off transfers, have all players contracts owned by large investment companies and let them move from club to club as many times as they want a season to ensure that the investments are protected and don't dwindle in value

because that's what is happening right?

Imagine the prospects, you never know who's gonna be turning out for you. Your regular players might be off to play for Man U, or players like Shevchenko might be sick of the bench and give Bolton a go.

I do agree with the rule, but i just think it shouldn't be without exceptions, and this is one thats probably not going to do any harm.

I think it was something like the 2nd of September or similar and We managed to argue that he would be playing in that game so we managed to sneek the transfer through that way.

Liverpool have been given permission by Fifa to sign West Ham outcast Javier Mascherano.

A deal between Liverpool and West Ham to take Mascherano to Anfield had been agreed, but the move was being upheld by Fifa's transfer regulations

The Reds petitioned the game's governing body to sign Mascherano even though the Argentine has already played for two clubs in the past 12 months.

Fifa rules forbid any player turning out for more than two clubs over a one-year period between 1st July and 30th June the following year.

However, Liverpool claimed that the player should be allowed to move on as he does not figure in West Ham's plans and Fifa have granted them special dispensation to push through a deal for the former River Plate ace.

A statement from Fifa read: "After due consideration of all aspects, the Fifa single judge ruled that 'upon registration for Liverpool FC during the present registration period, the player Javier Mascherano is eligible to play in official matches with the said club with immediate effect'."

Wonder what would have happended if it was us?

Hey if them lot can have the rules changed why can't we? Maybe we can ask special permission for the top 5 in the perm to enter the champions league if we finish 5th!

It happened to Aliadiere, but he played for 4 clubs during one season. He went to Celtic, West Ham, then went back to Arsenal, then went to Wolves.

the ruling would appear to apply to transfers and not loans

and if you have companies owning players contracts as opposed to clubs, this is a situation that will probably arise again
