If You Drive A Car, Please Read

Featured Replies

Sarah Kennedy was talking about this proposed car tax scheme on Radio 2. Apparently there is only one month left to register your objection to the 'Pay As You Go' road tax.

The petition is on the 10 Downing St website but they didn't tell anybody about it. Therefore at the time of Sarah's comments only 250,000 people had signed it and 750,000 signatures are required for the goverment to at least take any notice.

Once you've given your details (you don't have to give your full address, just house number and postcode will do), they will send you an email with a link in it. Once you click on that link, you'll have signed the petition.

The government's proposal to introduce road pricing will mean you having to purchase a tracking device for your car and paying a monthly bill to use it. The tracking device will cost about ??200 and in a recent study by the BBC, the lowest monthly bill was ??28 for a rural florist and ??194 for a delivery driver. A non working mother who used the car to take the kids to school paid ??86 in one month.

On top of this massive increase in tax, you will be tracked. Somebody will know where you are at all times. They will also know how fast you have been going, so even if you accidentally creep over a speed limit in time you can probably expect a Notice of Intended Prosecution with your monthly bill.

If you are concerned about this Orwellian plan and want to stop the constant bashing of the car driver, please sign the petition on No 10's new website (link below) and pass this on to as many people as possible. Sign up if you value your freedom and democratic rights -

Bloody governments, they never have their greedy little mitts out your wallet do they? Thieving Bastards!

I've signed and posted it on another forum

so a tax that means people who use their cars a lot pay more for the roads than people who do nt is wrong because ???????????????

if this encourages people not to use their cars and this saves the planet you are objecting why ?????????????????

I've signed it but a fat lot of good it will do.

One million people travelled to London to protest against the Iraq War.

People who properly got off their arses - not some 2 minutes on the net.

And look what notice the government took.

People who use thier cars more should pay more IMO.

An extra tax on fuel would cover it.

so only people who can afford to drive, should be able to drive?

how about those who NEED to drive?

Like IT bods?

I've signed it because of the principle but I reckon I would be better off with the new system.

I've got a 2.5 Litre V6 Alfa Romeo so get charged a bloody fortune for road tax but I only do about 3000 miles a year so might be better off with the new system

They want to drop fuel charges... I only get about 14 mpg around the city

Those who do the most miles cause the most pollution and the most wear and tear to the roads, therefore it is right they should pay the most. But, to back this policy I'd insist the current road tax is scrapped.

However, a simple tracking device should be fitted to all vehicles and anybody caught using a 4x4 primarily for the school run should be charged a tenner a mile.

eh ???

people who can not afford to drive are punished how in this system ?

NEED to drive ? for their jobs ? to get to the match ? for their family ? because it is easier ?

the more you drive the more you pay, this encourages people to use other forms of transport which is better for the environment.

aint saying it is perfect but a load of middle englanders who use their cars when they could walk their kids to school (now wheres the thread about kids an exercise ?)

people are like lemmings in this country 1.2m can not be wrong...........oh yes they can !

Scrap road tax, and add more duty to fuel.

Thus, the people who use the roads more, bear the brunt.

Improve public transport so that not as many people feel the need (I know they might not actually need to, but they might feel the need) to use their cars

For once Ian, you're talking a bit of shite.

The vast majority of road use is folk going to and from work, the vast majority of whom could not use public transport without getting to work at 10am or leaving home at 5am. None of our lads could get to site, with their tools, on the fckin bus and there are millions like us.

So, why in the name of fucks sake should folk PAY TAX to go to work.

Well said!

Perhaps the working mother who would pay ??86 under the new scheme should put her kids on the school bus, thus saving her about ??75 a week and increasing the demand for an under used, and therefore under threat, school bus service.

Mind you, if it were down to me I'd ban all cars except public transport and emergency services.

how does one propose my 7 year old gets to school, seeing as

1 there isn't a school bus

2 i'd not let him get on it if there was

maybe mrs casino would be better jacking in her job, walking to school with him, and being a nice burden on the state

Aside from not wanting big brother to know your driving habits there is the question of the disabled who depend on their cars, should they be penalised as well? I mean it isn't very realistic to expect a wheelchair bound person to catch a doubledecker is it?

Mind you, if it were down to me I'd ban all cars except public transport and emergency services.

Dont' talk with your c??ck hanging out.

Next time you need your boiler fixing coz the heatings gone off in the middle of the night, who will come and fix it? A plumber? On the bus? With all his gear?

What happens when your leccy, gas, water, telephone, etc., goes off becuase there is nobody available to fix and maintain the services or manage the business because they can't get to work.

The food you eat, who delivers it to the shop? I dont see many train lines in Asda. Nor the local Spar shop round the corner.

Your bins, are you going to let them overflow?

If you think public transport is sufficient for folk to get to work and do their thing, then you are one clueless c??nt.

calm down tiger, i think the lack of train station is getting to you.

we already pay tax to use our cars etc etc, this is just another way of working out whio pays what.

for every example of essential use there is an example of non essential use, i lived in halliwell and walked home from church road every day, when i went to smithills again walked it was nt far but i walked most kids did, these days outside any school you will see families in their off road vehicles dropping kids off, the same kids we all saying need to get out and exercise more.

the example of the late night electrician, well if he had a computer on his car this could record the time he went out and be counted as exempt.

as i said i do not think this system is perfect and this government will do everything possible to implement it a stupid way but something needs to be dome about the amount of cars on the roads and untill people come up with better alternatives maybe we should give this a try ?

i did a load of work with insurance companies a few years back and they were wanting to introduce this back then, the down side of this is that big brother can be watching you. is that bad thing little girl on the way to school gets knocked down and the driver fucks off, his on board computer will prove where he was.....

as i said the government will fcuk this opportunity up by using it to increase tax so everyone pays more, what it should/could do is make sure people pay the appropriate amount which would meaqn some winners and some losers, the greedy men at number 10 will make everyone losers.

Aside from not wanting big brother to know your driving habits there is the question of the disabled who depend on their cars, should they be penalised as well? I mean it isn't very realistic to expect a wheelchair bound person to catch a doubledecker is it?

i think it would be very eaqsy to have a different or free scale for certain users.

my dad is disabled and has to register his car so just the same for this.
