What Does This Mean...

In The Times today. It questions how Nugent has got into the England Squad by looking at the English forwards in the Prem.

Scroll down to the bottom and our Kevin Davies has a little section all to himself.

Now, is the writier saying Davies is utter shite and hasn't a hope of playing for England or does the writer mean to imply that he should be in the squad?

What do you lot think?

Striking out

Steve McClaren?s decision to call David Nugent, the Preston North End striker, into his squad shows the dearth of England-qualified forwards in the Premiership. Bill Edgar looks at the top-flight?s Englishmen and assesses their status

In squad

Wayne Rooney, Man Utd

Andrew Johnson, Everton

Jermain Defoe, Tottenham

Injured

Michael Owen, Newcastle

Peter Crouch, Liverpool

Dean Ashton, West Ham

Darren Bent, Charlton

Theo Walcott, Arsenal

Chris Sutton, Aston Villa

Shola Ameobi, Newcastle

Rob Hulse, Sheff Utd

Danny Webber, Sheff Utd

Past it

Robbie Fowler, Liverpool

Andrew Cole, Portsmouth

Emile Heskey, Wigan

Teddy Sheringham, W Ham

Too young

(all England Under21 squad)

Gabriel Agbonlahor, A Villa

Ashley Young, A Villa

Leroy Lita, Reading

Matt Derbyshire, Blackburn

Too inexperienced

Dave Kitson, Reading (only three top-flight starts)

Will Hoskins, Watford (only just left Rotherham)

Not up to scratch

Alan Smith, Man Utd

Marcus Bent, Charlton (journeyman)

James Beattie, Everton (has had his England chance)

Darius Vassell, Man City (lost England form)

Malcolm Christie, Middlesbro (prone to injury)

Jon Stead, Sheff Utd

Marlon Harewood, West Ham (no confidence)

Carlton Cole, West Ham (40 league starts in five years)

Bobby Zamora, West Ham (two goals in 24 games)

Other

Kevin Davies, Bolton (so no chance of selection)

heskey past it???

as far as im concerned heskey, smith, beattie, vassell should be considered if on form, davies is probably just below them because they are better 'footballers'

It sounds to me like he probably rates him, but knows how most people see Davies as an admission that it's gonna be long balls up all the time.

I think the man is implying that the FA and McLaren regard Bolton and it's players with the same lip-curling expression they would any detritous that appears on their bog-brushes.

Put simply, if Anelka was English he'd still only get a job carrying the nets for England practice sessions.

it means as in nolans case davies wont be picked ever because hes at bolton

What if Davies is on form and them four aren't? Does that make it an even race? The only one I would have sniffing around he England team would be Smith, the rest aren't worth bog paper.

Davies would shake up any teams defence in Englands Euro group, trouble is would he score the goals? I fear not. I blame the ticket office.

I think he means that he doesn't belong to any of the catagories above.

ie. Not picked, too young, injured or crap.

So i think he is saying he can't see why davies hasn't been given the call up.

If that is exactly how it was written then it seems to me that whoever wrote it is saying no Bolton players will ever get picked regardless of how good they are! I don't think it is about whether Davies should be picked or not but more about our club.

THANK YOU THATS IT

those players have shown in the past that on form they weren't up to it

mroe so heskey is past it because he's not at liverpool anymore

for me vassell did more in an england shirt than he did for villa / city

I honestly think that Davies is far more worthy of an England call up than Nolan. He's a technically better footballer to me and with his strength and work rate I think he could "do a job" e.g. target man in a tricky away game.

Nolan and England....I just don't see it.

Don't worry, I don't think you ever will

I see Michael Ricketts has been over-looked.

Hey, just hang on. . .wasn't it McClarren who bought Ricketts from us?
