Portsmouth turn to Bolton striker Anelka

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is preparing a bid for Bolton Wanderers striker Nicolas Anelka.

 

The Daily Star says Redknapp is turning to Anelka after losing out to Newcastle United for Middlesbrough's Bosman prospect Mark Viduka. Manchester United have also been linked with Anelka since the end of the season.

That has got to be a made up story (courtesy of The Star) why on earth would he ever consider going there?

He'd be closer to home

This is fast becoming a very dangerous transfer situation, we have many clubs with vast wealth and big backers, scouting round for any player of premiership quality and willing to offer kings ransom for these players, unfortunately we cannot compete in this market place and I think it is going to be virtually impossible for bolton and sammy lee to bring in any players, I hope I am wrong and we have some deals in the pipeline because the longer we go without being proactive in this market the bigger the likelihood of our players getting restless and looking for a move.

I think you can safely dis-credit any transfer rumour you hear in June. As a kid I can remember for a month or so at the end of the season there was no football news in the paper because there was nowt to print but now there is a back page lead every day.

if a team outside of champions leage wanted me i would say no

 

 

if a team not even in europe wanted me i would say no.

 

 

if i thought i was second choice behind mark viduka i would drive striaght down there and sign on the dotted line....

And add to that, before we all succumb to panic, let's remember that even the billionaire-backed clubs can only keep 20-25 players happy at any one time. So if they sign more, they'll sell/release others .....

There'll always be some quality players available for a top-level, top-half, we're-in-Europe-you-aren't club. And we have to get 'em and make best use of 'em. Don'tcha think ?

Or is that overly optimistic ?

Anelka chose us over them last year and we didn't have europe. Why would he go to them now?

 

Plus if he did want to go, with rumours about United wanting him, i'm sure he even think about going to Pompey.

Cant see Anelka going to Portsmouth now. One of the reasons he choose us over Portsmouth in the first place was that he alraedy had friends in the area from his time at Liverpool/city. That will not have changed.
