Rotherham United Away

Mounts mentioned that he enjoyed some of the old recollections of some of the rum buggers who have followed BWFC over the years. Hopefully, someone like Sluffy will be able to pin this game down to an actual date. I have a distant memory that it was a 1-1 draw at Millmoor but we may have nicked it; can't remember exactly. If I had to gamble I'd probably plump for 68-69 season.

The one thing I remember very clearly, however, is that a big following of Bolton fans was in the newer end behind the goal - a fairly flash (for that time) cantilevered roof job. There'd been a bit of a fracas on a bridge on the way to the ground and the Bolton boys were now stoked up and ready for owt. By the time they got to the ground they were fired up and the local constabulary weren't too impressed. A few lads copped a bit of a slap on the way in just for singing and general rowdy behaviour. A well known 'character' from Denvale (initials only TB) who had developed some serious biceps working on't'bins decided he'd really give them summat to worry about about 10 minutes into the match and proceeded to hang from an 'I' beam in the roof and make his way out to the edge - about 50 foot above ground level. Hung there on one arm watching the game!!! Cue panic by the 'authorities' resulting in about 20 assorted coppers and St Johns ambulance below him with a makeshift net, absolutely sh1tting themselves.

After a good while trying to talk him down, the lad finally gave in (I think they threatened to stop the game) and inched back along the girder to a welcoming party who belted the crap out of him :D

Always had some rum uns has Bolton :::::::lol:::::::

I remember taking a smack int chops at Milmoor, mid seventies i think. We'd taken dozens of coaches that day, but after the game they'd moved the fookers from where they'd originally been parked. We had to walk back past the ground just as the retarded branch of RUFC were exiting their end - and we met head on, Cue mass carnage.

keep em coming Bolty, I am going to talk to one of the older lads who i know (benny ex of horwich/eccles and now walkden) who has the best catalogue of old day tales that I know I will then stick some of them on here.

I used to go away games with Benny and his mates from Horwich - Conrad and Andy H were 2 of them.

We got in some cracking scrapes, more notably - Plymouth away, we were all in a cafe on Plymouth bus station about 9:00 am (we had gone on ::::::lol:::::: Catteralls midnight coach from the Wheatsheaf) and a load of Argyle fans stormed the cafe, the owner told us to leave or he'd call the cops, we managed to talk our way out of battling, then we had to leg it because some daft red ginger stabbed a Plymouth fan :drinks:

Another bit of a do we had was en route to Pompey on a 28 seater, a few of us were at Leigh college and we all nicked a ball pein hammer each, we knew that Manure were going to London the same day so we tooled up for a do with them, as soon as they saw the hammers they s hit themselves, the cops raided our coach and found a couple of said hammers under Benny's seat, as he was nicked we shared his ale and butties :drinks: That's what friends are for

Some great memories there lads. I remember going to rotherham in the 70s and involved in a few scuffles under the stand behind the goal. We found a pub just around the corner prior to the game where we supped a few. We were searched well before we entered the ground, seemed like we could get entry through any turnstile. We were met by a group of geezers in boiler suits, I think they had been watching A Clockwork Orange, however they looked at us and turned the other way, our group from Atherton chased them and I got caught by the police. I was summoned at the localnick and released just before the final whistle. In court a few weeks later the Judge give me a fine of ?15. He said I was using threatening behaviour by singing " come and have a go at the Bolton agro" to$$ers.

All my memories i could write a book.

Went to Plymouth on the same coach, there was a bit of trouble in the ground and a few of us were thrown out along with a few Plymouth lads, the trouble kicked off again outside. Outside the ground there were football pitches with corner flags still on. I turned roung and saw a plymouth lad being hit full in the face with one. What a mess.

Hope this is of some help.

The first time we ever played Rotherham United away was the 17th April, 1965 - a nil all game in the Second division.

The following are results from the next few years - until Rotherham were relegated to the third -

27th Nov, 1965 - lost 2-1 - Redrobe

30th Aug, 1966 - won 0-1 - Gordon Taylor

21st October 1967 - drew 2-2 - Greaves, Byrom

Rotherham were relegated at the end of that season - but we played them in the League Cup two seasons later (and what a struggle it was!)

3rd Sept, 1969 - drew 0-0

9th Sept, 1969 - drew 3-3 - John Hulme, Byrom (2) - after extra time

11th Sept, 1969 - lost 1-0

We next played them again in 71/72 when we joined them in the third.

2nd May, 1972 - lost 2-0

31st March, 1973 - lost 1-0

Rotherham were then relegated to the fourth at the end of that season - and our paths did not cross again until 1981/82 season - in the second division.

Rather embarrassingly our all time record against Rotherham is rather poor - won 7, Drawn 13, Lost 15, For 32, against 46.

Nice one Sluffy - almost certainly the 2-2 draw 21/10/67. Forty years ago eh? My b0llocks would only just have dropped :D I remember the Tony B incident like it was yesterday. Only about 18 months before being threatened with expulsion from BCGS for being the first student to turn up with a no. 1 skinhead :::::::lol:::::::

Rotherham - mid 80's, wouldnt let us go across a railway so walked up a 8ft wide ginnel (as seen on ID) we lost to our 'bogey team' and then walked into a wall of red!

A police dog decided to get on its back legs and it didnt look it had been fed for a month!

York - mid 80's - shoved against a fence whilst the 'lads' were in discusion with the local force

Bradford - burnt my mouth on a pie

Leeds - my dad fell over outside the ground (or was he pushed)

I DONT HAVE FOND EXPERIENCES IN YORKSHIRE!!!

Your old man falling over at Leeds was one of the funniest things I have seen at football

That same old man was fighting off a mob of Everton with his brolly in light saver style whilst you were on your toes legging it up the road!!!

Gumbo senior - Likes to scrap with the dark side!!
