First Game

The club try to entice new fans by charging ?1 for kids, which on the face of it seems a great idea.

I took my lad (aged 4) on saturday for his first game.

How do you then explain that the club aren't taking the competition seriously,

that the squad players that have come in are garbage, that we aren't normally this bad

and that you need to keep going.

On top of why are all the Sheff Utd fans singing and dancing ? - all makes for a difficult day.

Surely if the club want new fans and they need the team to put on some sort of show.

By the time you have bought a drink, scarf, mcdonalds etc - it certainly isn't just a ?1 that

you have spent. (plus the cost of your own ticket, travel etc)

This for me all stems back to our friendly Newcastle manager. If the crowd know that

it will not be the first team, no matter how much you discount, you are never going to get

full houses.

It only seems to be the lower league clubs looking for shocks that take big followings or get

big home crowds. Or premiership teams drawn away at places they would not normally play.

I will still go, but the enticement to youngsters of coming watching a useless preformance at

any price is difficult to sell on a regular basis.

Anyone elses first game as bad as saturday ?

You know when the half full lot say 'well the club have tried to reduce prices but nobody goes', how many times has this happened and they have actually played a full strength team?

I think they should rebrand these offers as 'Yeee ha!! Half the team, half the price!! Bargains Galore!!'.

Or something similar.

That should've been a rollover cheeseburger or hotdog inside the ground

took my daughter to Rabotnicki, Braga, Aris and Villa at home.

all of those were dire games.

too cold and didn't expect any atmosphere on Saturday - so opted not to take advantage of the ?1 kids deal.

glad. most parents spent the game huddling up to their kids who must have been freezing, bored and emotionally distraught.

did they do anything for these "first time fans"? half time Lofty marching around the ground giving out stuff to kiddies?

did they feck!

It would apper that when they announce lower prices for games, its a signal that Megson can field who and what ever he feels like.

I liked the argument that the game should have been free for season ticket holders as the club were playing the reserves.

I think the club should give all the kids their ?1 back with a covering letter of apology signed by all the players (except Guthrie)

When we were kids the FA cup was magic sat in front of the tele from 11 til 6

with our pop and crisps, wacthing the teams leave the hotel on route to wembley.

Watching the players on the pitch before kick off, it was a magic day for all kids then.

Now teams like our own Bolton Wanderers have devalued it by takeing the piss.

I know times change but the FA cup should take pride of place in the football calendar.

we haven't devalued it

it's just that the premier league has become the most valuable

using my body as an illustration, let's say back then the fa cup was around where my neck is, the league for us was probably around the chest, now the league is on top of my head, whilst the fa cup is still in front of my neck, it's value is the same, just that other things have risen - would be better if you coudl see this but makes sense

we haven't devalued it

Like i said times change but it fucks me off that MOST prem team dont care anymore.

Not just about the F A cup but about fans as well. I was the one telling WWs posters to cheer up last night.

Think i got something in my eye.

Lets just say if we whould have played a decent starting 11 in the cup we whould have a 4th round

tie with west ham or city at home now. No matter what team he played on saturday there is no way we are

going down.

True. Whould have been nice to hear our name in the draw today.

I never said he had to played Anelka but our starting 11 that we

play in the uefa cup whould have done.

I'm sure Chelsea asked he not play this week as part of the deal. Not that they'd approached the club till tonight though, of course.

in hindsight, the football served up by the latter was guff, but on paper both sides are roughly similar in strength and quality, perhaps the latter is stronger in that it's got Diouf and Guthrie - the only exception being Andranik who has somehow become the clubs best midfielder pver the last couple of days

and for every player who started v red star but not sheff u, I'll find 5 posts on here calling them sh?te

I got p?ssed in town instead of going......we've had 2 decent games this season at home & I think that's the lot now. We don't half play some shockingly sh?te football, add to that the stale atmosphere and going to that suburb with the sh?ttest pubs in Bolton and I think I made the right decision.
