WANDERERS' RESERVES ended season with a victory over neighbours Blackburn at Morecambe's Christie Park, with a Heidar Helguson penalty and a fine strike from Danny Braaten enough to give the second string the win.

 

A goal-mouth scramble early on following a fine save from Gunnar Neilsen following a Danny Braaten shot saw Mikel Alonso being felled by Winnard. Helguson stepped up to take the resulting spot-kick and sent the Rovers keeper the wrong way to put the Whites in front.

 

Bolton survived strong claims themselves for a penalty but on 25 minutes Neilsen was in action again to prevent a Dzemali free-kick from sneaking in. Braaten however was first to react and struck the ball home to extend the visitors' lead.

 

Rovers came back into the game with 20 minutes remaining when Josh O'Keefe was played through and shot at goal. Veteran Ian Walker managed to block the shot but the ball came back to O'Keefe who managed to squeeze the ball in from an acute angle.

 

Wanderers managed to survive several further attacks by Rovers but held out to ensure the season ended on a high note.

If anything, it's braaten who is actually performing well at reserve level: a good goal last week, another goal tonight and the penalty was a result of their keeper having to make a fine save from braaten.
