May 21, 200818 yr I remember seeing a timeline of pregnancy, with picutres. It is shocking how developed the baby is at 24 weeks. I suppose the debate is when the 'foetus' becomes a 'human being'? I have my own views on abortion, but I suppose until I find myself in that situation, I don't really know what I would do.
May 21, 200818 yr Author OK Ali, you turn out, get lashed up, pull an absolute horror, and a few weeks later there is a bun in the oven.

I went to the Body Works Exibition in Manchester a few months ago and they have foetuses in there showing each week of progression and its shocking to see just how much they are developed at 24 weeks.. you cant really class it as a foetus at that stage in my opinion.
May 21, 200818 yr I appreciate that there are instances where abortion needs to be considered for purely medical reasons... But I would suggest that more time and effort and advertising should be used to educate particularly young girls but also boys that children are not fashion accesories and contraceptives are there to be used...
May 21, 200818 yr If someone is going to kill their unborn child as it's not wanted - then they'll do it whether or not the government thinks the pregnancy is too far gone or not.
May 21, 200818 yr OK Ali, you turn out, get lashed up, pull an absolute horror, and a few weeks later there is a bun in the oven. If a woman has been raped and ends up pregnant, I agree with abortion then. In the above case, well its my own stupid fault for not thinking about the consequences of my actions. But do I really want to bring that child into the world knowing it won't know its father, I'm not in a suitable position to raise a child at the moment and I'm also too bloody selfish? I can debate this one with myself, never mind the rest of you!
May 21, 200818 yr Its always a tough one to debate, but you hear of a lot of stories from Hospitals were Doctors are desperatly trying to save the life of a premature baby born at 24 weeks, and in the next ward they are aborting one of the same age, IMO it should be allowed up to 24 weeks, for medical cases only, the deadline for women who decide they dont want it should be lower.
May 21, 200818 yr I don't agree with it. I suppose if the child is serverly disabled then i would consider it, but as said above you dont know until you are but in the situation.
May 21, 200818 yr I certainly agree with it if the woman is a victim of rape, the baby is mentally disabled, or if she was p?ssed and shagged a darkie accidents happen though and as said already, if a girl gets pregnant and it's going to f?ck up their life for whatever reason (age, money, etc) then they should probably do it guess in summary then, really all depends on the circumstances i won't judge anyone that has one
May 21, 200818 yr This is an interesting chart at the bottom of the article. It would appear over 20 weeks are few and far between and I would presume they are for a reason rather than a whim. Women should not be condemned for their actions imho, it is their life & their body. I don't think the cost is an issue either as there are now much cheaper options, e.g. abortion pill.
May 21, 200818 yr Tracey lives in council house with her parents. she is 16, like most other 16 years she has tried that sex stuff. she notices that she has missed a couple of periods, like most 16 year old she has no idea what to do eventually she gets a test and finds out she is pregnant. she has no job, has not finished school and prospects of getting a job, her mum and dad are skint. she reailsies that she can not give the kid a chance in life so what does she do ? abortion...then get on with her life and wonder what the babay would have been like ? keep it....do the best she can but know that she will be branded as just another teen age single mum ? Damned if you do, damned if you do not. Is there anyone on here who has not at some stage played vatican roulette ? so so not fall into the trap of saying they should be more careful, we have all been there. Women should have the right to choose, 22 weeks or 24 ? i think if you have been pregnant for 154 days not sure what is going to help you make your mind up in the next 14. so why not 22 weeks, with option to abort at a later date on medical grounds ?
May 21, 200818 yr Is it perverse to be anti-abortion, but pro death penalty ? No, everyone/thing has the right to live. You can lose that right because of your actions.
May 21, 200818 yr No, everyone/thing has the right to live. You can lose that right because of your actions. I do not believe we have the right to kill another human, be it legal or not. I am though, pro abortion. Is that perverse?
May 21, 200818 yr I do not believe we have the right to kill another human, be it legal or not. I am though, pro abortion. Is that perverse? no it's hypocritical or you don't class unborn babies as humans
May 21, 200818 yr noit's hypocritical or you don't class unborn babies as humans I don't. So I'm not a hypocrite?
May 21, 200818 yr I find it perverse that our abortion rates are so high yet our adoption rates are so low. I also suspect it is used as an easy cop out for a lot of, well, sluts. I can barely think of another sphere where technology has advanced so much to place new parameters on the issue but the law hasn't changed at all to reflect such new realities.
May 21, 200818 yr Author Put this in the mixer then. At your 20 week scan, you find out that your baby is severly disabled. You still have the option of abortion...... Yes or no.
May 21, 200818 yr This is another 'don't know til it happens' and I've asked my mates this loads of times. I would never want to kill a child inside me, but I suppose if I knew it would never have a good quality of life, I would consider it. How accurate are the scans? can they get these things wrong?

May 21, 200818 yr When I had a scan at 20 wks with my daughter I was told she had spina bifida and was offered a termination if I wanted. I obviously did not take the offer,I had already become attatched to this baby moving and kicking inside of me . She does have spina bifida occulta, and had major surgery as a baby, but if you did not know she had it you would be non the wiser. Think i'm on the fence on this issue, if it's related to a woman being raped then I feel it's the best decision, but if it's simply due to someone being foolish enough to have unprotected sex then I think it's unfair and irresponsible. There was a programme on TV a few months ago showing actual abortions, it was very graphic, and quite heart rendering to see how formed the feotus (sp?) were. When I say I sit on the fence I fear that my daughter could come home and tell me she is pregnant.........what would I do then???? It's a hard one!
Murder or Ethical?
